Curious at to the reason for 1Gbps, at the consumer level ?

HDTV is possible, what else is driving this investment.
 
There's lot of difference in 1 gbps connectivity and 1gbps internet bandwidth.

Its pretty good though, they are setting up infrastructure future-proof. But typically nonsense is 1 gbps bandwidth at consumer level.

And what HD ! I think 2160P would be playable :D

Guys one way to get 1Gbps, is by bringing "MR LALOO" in Ministry of Communications and Information :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

At least Bullet train in on the way to India at last. :bleh:

Correct, this is the question ?

Given the topic title says 'Korea', so its a govt. initiative for sure.

For what purpose, would they consider planning that in 4 yrs time the avg user (and the article does lead one to believe its at the consumer level) needs to have 1Gbps speed.

Currently, the biggest bandwidth consuming appplication is multimedia, mostly entertainment. I have no reason to doubt it will remain that way even a decade from now.

I find it hard to understand a govt. would invest as much to keep its citizens 'entertained'.

What's the payoff :)

Goes some way to explaining why they currently have such high transfer rates.

Government policies strongly encouraged it from 1997 onwards.

Good find.

Its 2009 and I wonder when people are gonna implement such policies here...
 
The key is unbundling the local loop.

This is the pattern i notice in many places.

It must be harder to do here compared to elsewhere.
