Nintendo today has announced the Nintendo 2DS today, which is basically a Nintendo 3DS with no 3D features and the 3DS laid flat on it's back.

The 2DS is fully compatible with all the previous 3DS games which have released thus far and is exactly the sae hardware wise (Wi-Fi, local multiplayer and all the other things are included), and as said earlier - the only thing missing from this is the 3D effect which earned the 3DS it's name. Another thing is a totally revamped design, and it can't be closed anymore as now it looks like a slate.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said “Imagine a standard 3DS laid all the way flat, and with the depth slider all the way down, everything else is there in the system.” So this is primarily aimed at children whose parents might be worried about their kids' eyes.

The Nintendo '2DS' launches in under two months, October the 12th coinciding with the release of Pokémon X and Y - which is almost guaranteed to be a phenomenon. It will retail for $129.99 and at first the two colours it will be available in are Blue and Red.
