News Nintendo Switch 2 becomes fastest selling console at launch in history!

Absolutely epic. And S2 continues to be available with little delay. Launching soon in SEA markets.
No major scalping (forget India as no official presence).
They have been stocking it in US since January because of the tariffs, so the shipment availability itself is highly inflated compared to any launch console. Then you again have scalpers already reselling them on eBay and such anticipating a price increase because of tariffs. Not sure how many are with actual gamers.

Anybody who wanted got one (in launch markets). And most markets are well stocked even now.
US is just one country - the launch allocations are very good in EU, UK, Australia etc. People can walk in and grab one.
3 million in 2 days is crazy numbers.

It's unbelievable what Nintendo has pulled off with the Switch lineup, when I was working on titles being published for the Wii-U I thought it was over for them.
Wii U is very underrated console . It is fantastic console otherwise but Nintendo did fail to focus on some of the lineup. It had its decent number of some great games .

I still sometimes play my Wii U and enjoy playing.

Over 3 million units sold in the first 24 hours worldwide, more than triple the 1 million record held by PS4 .

It’s already on track to beat the 4.5 million two‑month launch record held by both PS4 and PS5

The bigger question is - whether it will continue this sales trend for the next 2-3 years? And that's what matters.

Launch sale records are no indication that the console will be a success in the long-run.

Case in point being the PS Vita: it sold 1.2 million units in a span of 2 months - and this was in 2012 - before the heights of social media and influencer rage. And we all know how it turned out.

Also, GTA 6 will be a system seller and the Nintendo Switch 2 not being on that list will be a major drawback for potential customers and Nintendo's accounts for FY2026-27.

Most of the hardcore Nintendo userbase probably doesn't even care about something like GTA6. Throw them a few Mario titles and Zelda and they're satisfied.

You used to work at Nintendo? That’s amazing!

No, I used to work in Ubisoft, testing games on the WiiU was always a pain in the ass.
It was clear at the time that the devs were struggling to build on it or port titles over from ps3/x360 due to the different arch.

Baat toh yeh bi sahi bol reha hai.

Only time will tell though.

I think this may put pressure on Sony and Microsoft to bring PS6 and Xbox Series XXX.

Technically possible: With strong DLSS, targeted optimizations, and lower settings, a docked GTA 6 edition could run on Switch 2.

Practically unlikely at launch: CPU limits, storage constraints, and performance targets mean Rockstar will likely prioritize PS5/Xbox Series and maybe Series S/PC.

A port might come later — especially if a remastered GTA 5 succeeds on the platform.

Arey right...gta6 is coming to xbox and PS5 too.
So why will it be difficult to do it on switch 2 also?.

switch 2 specs not as powerful as PS5/xbox series also?

I didn't follow much on hardware specs...infact Nintendo didnt reveal much but it is going to play 4k games ( atleast some of them).

The understanding is that the Switch 2 is again going to be CPU constrained as it contains A78C cores from 2020. The Ampere GPU is also from 2020, but relatively more capable compared to a mobile. The Samsung 8nm node being used is slightly older than both. It is good that Nintendo is promoting third-party games, but it is going to be difficult to arrive at a compromise considering the raw horsepower available and the battery life is going to be horrible considering the small battery.

It is big, but as I said manufacturers normally don't hold on to inventory for 5 months prior to launch, hence the availability is much better. Nintendo has put the projected sales until Mar 2026 at 15 million which is the same as the first Switch, so the larger numbers is just because of the higher availability.

The Nintendo Switch 2, features a custom Nvidia T239 SoC with an 8-core ARM Cortex-A78C CPU (running at up to 1.1 GHz handheld, 0.998 GHz docked) and a significantly more modern Ampere-based GPU with 1536 CUDA cores, capable of 3.07 TFLOPS when docked and supporting advanced rendering technologies like DLSS and ray tracing. In contrast, the much older PlayStation 4 (released 2013) utilizes an 8-core AMD Jaguar x86-64 CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz (2.13 GHz on the PS4 Pro) and an AMD Radeon-based GPU from the GCN 2nd generation, offering 1.84 TFLOPS (4.20 TFLOPS on the PS4 Pro), placing the Switch 2's graphical prowess and CPU architecture in a significantly more advanced generation.
