I was looking to ship my SLR., was surprised to find that not even a single company wants to ship electronics, why is that??

I have tried Bluedart, tnt, dtdc, lot of local guys, fedex, gati, and many others..

nobody wants to ship any electronic item atall!!

Finally had to convince a a very nice guy at fedex and he charged Rs 650 to ship from banglaore to mumbai..

why have sooooo many couriers and not provide decent service eh???

yes 650 is ok price due to safety and insurances cover and may be return money back if fail to ship ;)

btw i have sold the laptop to Delhi where i paid 700 buck cause for more safety at fedex express :)

I have shipped motherboards, cpus , rams , speakers, hard disks, headphones, power supplies, gpus all thru my local DTDC center.

This i have heard for the first time.

Maybe some1 else can enlighten you.

They usually have problem with batteries , Fedex and GATI agreed to ship my PSP but only without the battery . Had to use First Flight. They delivered it alright

I specifically asked, and all said electronics..

some said u need to be a regular user and get registered..blah blah..

does customs check when ur shipping to other cities????

Even I have sent through DTDC many electronic items. The DTDC guy usually comes to my house and picks up the packages, mostly doesn't even ask what's inside.

they dont accept electronics anymore without inspection..

they quoted me 150 flat for less than 500gm volumetric weight to be shipped within same city...

they quoted me 60 bucks for the same thing a week before that..

i finally had to go for a local courier who did the job for 30bucks with express service (next day before evening)

the local guys even couriered me the receipts signed by the receiver !!

(thanks to the buyer for suggestion regarding local courier :) )

try with GATI courier... they handle courier for WD here in Navi mumbai..so i suppose they do not have steep rates for specially electronics..

Same thing happened with me when I tried shipping my Stereo Bluetooth.

TNT and FirstFlight said "Only business users with shipping accounts can ship electronics goods. Not for personal shipping of such things by individual users"

DTDC was ready, but the buyer specifically told me not to use DTDC. And some local couriers also refused.

BlueDart was also ready but out-of-budget.

Finally shipped it with ARAMEX. They were very good. Charged 110, delivered next day from Hyd to Delhi. But the collection shop was like some local agent to ARAMEX, not official direct ARAMEX office. I think that's the reason - direct offices of courier services don't accept but most agents accept.

i got into some major trouble shipping stuff to freshseasons1 here with dtdc.

avoid dtdc -they have been terrible of late.

I have no such issues with any of the courriers here. dtdc guy first told me, if its worth 5k [which it was], then they ll have to insure it and charges might go upto some 500 or so. then i told him... i have it really well packed, and dont want the insurance. Just ship it as other items, worth less than 100.

then the charges was immediately down to 85/- :D

if the item is huge, they ll calculate volumetric weight, not just its weight, and charges will get almost double. Only a problem for stuffs like cabby and big speakers.

I dont have any idea about this...

but my cousin shipped me a mobile, and on the cover he wrote in Big letters "Medicines: Handle With Care"... dont know why..

may be due to electronics issue or may be due to better handling.

You need to tell them that there are no batteries in the gadget. These guys are scared of batteries saying it might explode.

A DTDC guy said the above to me.
