Graphic Cards No display no boot beep with 8600GT

Hi guys/gals

Recently got a POV 8600 GT (used) from a friend to replace 7300GS
When I plugged it in, the PC started and display was fine however when I put the side cover back on...there was no display nor can i hear a beep when i switch it on

Eliminated problem with DVI converter as its working fine when i use it to connect 7300 again.

Using win XP professional, 1.5 gb 667 mhz Ram, Asus MX M2N, AMD Dual core 3600+, 300 (sata) + 40 (IDE) HDD

Any suggestions? Ur help is greatly appreciated

Does it always work with Side panel open ? If yes then something must be shorting somewhere...
 
Sunchamp...Have tried every thing short of nailing it in :-)

Aces170...Not always, it has started twice in too days that too on the first try only after that its the same old story

I know i have an outdated mobo n proc so do u guys hink its a compatibility issue with mobo?
 
put the card firmly back in the slot and connect its power cable and turn on the system.

8600GT's dont come with a power cable connector, to correct you.

Coming on the topic, its definately not a compatibility issue.

Try cleaning the Card's links with an eraser.
