Yes but my question is more to do with stuff purchased from abroad, histroically warranites are only valid in the country where they are bought. if you plan to import from anywhere, there wont be any valid *local* warranty, cept in very few instances where the vendor offers a worldwide warranty.

What recourse would a customer have then ?...shipping costs could be prohibitively expenisve at this point and negate the advantage of purchasing anything abroad unless willing to take the risk.

You are exactly right.

But items like RAM/FAN/HSF/Casing/Modding stuffs .. to me these products doesn't really give us trouble much. wont be importing HDD or Mobo - unless requested.

Those made in c$^%$a .. anyway you know its quality before you purchase them, i will try to help out customer if there is some thing wrong from my side , even if it cost me extra. I would request you to try out my service once its ready .. I will have free COD in Bangalore. lets see if we can help each other.

Your comments are invaluable to me. keep them coming.

Still waiting for my agent to come back with proper custom duty structure.[/B]

OK, let me try to help you out in whatever way I can...

Incase you already haven't done so ...get yourself an Import export code. Computer parts are freely importable, so you don't need any special licence for that. The IEC code above should be good enough. There are agents who can do it for you, but its just an easy form and you can do it yourself too. Just costs some 1000bux. Here is the link http://www.ap.nic.in/jdgft/iec.htm

This is how the duty structure works...

First calculate the CIF valve (this is cost + insurance + freight). All duties are on CIF value and not on the cost you purchased the item for. This is also reffered to as the "landing" cost.

First off you need to classify your commodity you are importing into a commodity classification code based on the Harmonised System of nomenclature (HSN). Your agents will be able to tell you the exact code. Basically all computer parts come under 2 classification codes. Just be careful before importing anything with a motor or pump, cuz these things even though they are computer parts sometimes the customs will put them under a different classification code and hence a different duty structure will apply.

For computer parts the basic duty is free for most of the parts. But then there are other subheadings like Additional Duty (16.48%), Addl. duty of customs (4%), education cess (3%). Totals to almost 21,653%. If you are importing into Mumbai then there is also Octroi (5.5%).

Thats pretty much it as long as importing into india goes. There are export laws governing the contry you plan to purchase from. If your supplier is handling the export part of it then you are fine, but if you plan to purchase from the supplier first and then export yourself in that country then you need to study the export regulations of that country too.

PM me if you need any additional help!

So if there is a problem with an item that has a non-international warranty and its not your fault that it does not work..meaning you honestly believe there was no mishandling on your part.

Are you offering some sort of insurance here, and if so to what value ?
..by that i mean, you will try to get a working item and deliver that instead, what about in the case where the item is no longer sold or genuinely out of stock. This can happen in the space of a yr with some things.

I think your idea is a good one, its maddening to try and find specific parts here, would it be as simple as someone showing you a link on newegg for example and you charging a certain % on top of it ?

As said earlier .. i will replace if the item comes out to be faulty within a month. After that if needed to get it RMA, I will have to take offline with customer and reach an point where its good for both of us. In this I dont worry about out of stock as manufacturer always replace with recent product if they dont have stock.

Second regarding newegg idea. I will be able to entertain almost all product but price wise I dont think we can compete with newegg but I can assure it will be beneficial. we all know what it cost to get some thing to India so its very transparent.

I really want to see we have a deal and you are happy with it. I should start early next month. so stay tune.

Well that sounds promising, i'm sure the hard core on this board would be interested. Not every one has a relative in the US that can be trusted to bring delicate items undamaged or unsoiled.

Let's see how it works out :D

Thanks for your positive comments. Soon we will have a handful of products ready for order. Keep watching Dealer's paradise.

Come on TE guys .. here is your chance to get what you want. drop me your request.

Cabinet is next step .. as they need at least 10-15 order .. and cant ship them via Air .. need to go for freight..waiting time will be longer .. initially will go for small item.. based on acceptance I will increase number of item :)

Thank you for your sugg. keep them coming.

Will you be selling mobos as well? I was thinking of buying the new Gigabyte P35 mobos, but they are outrageously expensive here.

problem with mobo is .. warranty. If you are willing to take risk let me know which model you looking for, i can check the price for you.

Remember this will be imported and you will have full warranty from the imported country. With little hassle and money I will help you to get it RMA if any problem.

I can get around 8.5 +/- . 1yr warranty, RMA will cost you around rs 500/- If you are really unlucky.

Anyway I will help with it. You have to give me some time.

I am still not comfortable for mobo as I dont want you to have bad impression about me.

Stay tune .. some more legal stuffs need to settle.

So that when we start we dont delay in dispatching your goods. Most likely will start with independence offer :) Free shipping to anywhere !!
