Linux NO VIDEO Problem Mandriva Spring 2008.1

Hello guys,I am working since last 8 hours to get video file played in Mandriva.Tried many things installed all possible codecs win32codec mpeg etc for xine totam.Added all PLF media.My internet connection (HOME-500 BSNL)is downloading stuff like water pump in mandriva for updates

What should i do to play video.I am getting only sound when video file played.AVI,MPEG4 ETC.
VLC and media player crashed down on playing any video file.

Help me

^^Please post a SS of Mandriva update Center.. Also please Enable Compiz Video Plugin so that you don't have any issue while playing video.. Have you change the file association ? Play file with Kaffiene

If that Plugin is not available install extra plugins from Add/Remove just do a search by Compiz and Install plugins of version 0.74 .. make sure you have updated Compiz to 0.74

Edit : If Enabling Plugin doesn't help try video by disabling Compiz.. But my friend Comp with ATI X1200 , AMD 4800+ X2 works flawlessly even with Compiz + Video no problme.. :|

Disabling 3D desktop worked:clap: .Mate do you idea how can i use both video playback and 3d desktop animations?what should i do like package updates etc

Read the comment carefully , install all compiz plugin from Add/Remove . .Search by copmiz and install pluginwith 0.74 version.. After that in CompizConfigSettingsManager enable Video plugin as shown in SS in previous comment

In add remove softwares there is no 0.74 version for copmiz.There is 0.72 or lower(i am not sure) version max.I have tried installing all plugins then enabling Video plugin from ccsm,none worked same blank video with only sound, on disabling 3D desktop effects from control center video playback becomes normal.Actuaily i want to upgrade compiz to 0.74 version also,but dont knows how i can do this?

Set the Media Like this

.. After that update the Media/repos. As soon as you do this.. System update will pop up , update the whole system , the Compiz will be updated automatically. Now install 0.74 plugins through Add/Remove..

Edit : Make sure the Compiz you enable is using XGL rendering engine

Thanks for help ..will try updates in night, i have all ready consumed 1.6gb data out of 2.5gb

still 18 days more to go with 900mb.why this XGL engine de- highlighted,may be after updates it will do.

I have little question why we have to download everytime from internet even for small packages.Is there any difference between CD version and DVD version of mandriva spring?

I have updated compiz fusion to 0.75 as

su root

urpmi.addmedia MIB_Compiz075 --update Index of /2008.1/i686/testing/compiz with media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz

urpmi.update -a ; urpmi --auto --auto-select

XGL rendering engine remains de-highlighted and video playing problem still continued.Installed all most many compiz plugins from add remove and enable playback from ccms.

Dropped idea of downloading plugin updates in mandriva,Installed open suse 10.3.Thanks to darky for helping in mandriva.
Open suse is much faster and reliable then mandriva spring.Video playback just started after downloading packages.everything is working like charm in open suse 10.3 in just 1 hour:hap2: :hap2:

Btw this will work in Mandriva If your using Kaffiene, try this Settings -> Xine Engine Parameters -> Video -> Driver to xshm .. Or read here Releases/Mandriva/2008.0/Errata - Mandriva Community Wiki

Yeah Mate This Distribution rocks for me.In mandriva I did all drivers settings in Xine Engine kaffience unfortunate none worked(spent more then 4 days for watching video only).After doing lots of plugins installations prescribed and searched, problem found with video playback is 3D destop effects only.After disabling 3D desktop effects everything becomes normal including video playback.
