Correction, that prices is before Taxes.....

Do not expect it to be anywhere below 30k in India... am telling u.....

Totally agree with you, Nokia has the habit of churning out mediocre products at exorbitant prices..especially their N and Xpress series. :P

If Nokia really wants this to be success it shouldn't be priced anymore than 20k.

look at N82 for an eg. it was so damn slow with the stock firmware.. and now when the V30 firmware hit the deck.. its lightning fast ! ..

Well, about the slow response, I have half expected it to be slow. Nokia has always loyally kept its habit of using the bare min processor reqd to run the software in its phones. So generally almost all its smartphones have been known to be sluggish. I am not surprised if this phone too is no exception.

I have also observed that generally those who have used Nokia's symbian offerings have assumed the mindset that the Symbian OS itself is slow. Its not the case. Its slow processor and min amount of RAM that Nokia puts in its phones thats responsible for the sluggishness. I do agree there are problems in the firmware too which can be resolved for a performance boost, but still the hardware is the major part to blame.

I dont really think this will translate to a sub 20K price for India.
25K would be nearer the mark.

Lol Nokia phones are way cheaper in India
By the news of its the price is 17999/- :D:D:D:D

N82 has been fast since it came out..They are adding more features, and improving a few apps like music, camera etc..

The core performance of the phone was always very fast...

Was looking forward to this. Just found out it has a resistive touch screen (Nintendo DS) as opposed to a capacitive touchscreen. :( It will be a bit of a hassle operating with the finger.

Price it at sub 20K and I'm sure there would be thousands of happy souls including me, and a few unhappy souls too (you know who)..! :P

he is just converting the announced price into Rs..... dont get excited...

Is it saar ??? This is nt ifone . Check all nokia prices starting from lowend to highend. Check $ & Euro prices and compare to India.Btw the MRP is supposed to be Rs 19XXX. so the street prices will be arnd 18k or so :D or even lower. I know some people here wont be able to sell their old phones. Its like HD 4850 cming and destryoing the whole 8800GT(XXX) market

I am not denying it.... Nokia might price it there.... but considring the price market of touchscreen phones... a.k.a the HTC Touch DIamond, the iPhone n the Samsung Omnia.... Nokia would like to cash in on the price wars here....
Dont forget its their first touchscreen phone, and India is a Nokia fanbase, they can sell anything here.... Hell the N72 is a major hit :P
So i expect the phone to be around the 30k mark :)

Nokia has enjoyed its success here in India because they have played the market sensibly. I havent seen Nokia phone launch here at jacked up pricing on purpose to cash the hype. Every single Nokia phone launched here at costs less than EU / US markets and it only got cheaper over time. N95 was hyped up, E71 was hyped up, N82 was overhyped. Still all these phones launched here at expected pricing and got much cheaper over the few months that followed ( except E71 but its not that old yet ).

HTC Touch diamons, iPhone cost a lot in the first place. They do not deserve their price tags but it does not mean that these phones are priced more than international market here. They are overpriced world wide.

Touch or no touch, does not really matter for Nokia. Nokia is launching it in XpressMusic. And Nokia wouldnt even dare to price Xpress Music phone in excess of 20k. If that it to happen, it will mean they are taking an axe, and chopping their own legs with it. They wont put this phone in competition with their own high end N series as well.

yep,they're targeting volume market.

Its not a proto or a pre mass production. This video was put up after the launch on the official Nokia Conversations site. They know better than to put up proto model demo's out for the public.

Now that you are so sure about it,how do you explain the speed difference in UI from various devices reviewed in those gazillion Utube videos..

LONDON: Nokia, the world's top mobile phone maker, said it will start sales of its first touchscreen model -- rival to Apple's iPhone -- in seven markets. It will roll out the 5800 model this year in India, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia and Spain.

Apple, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics have rolled out their own touchscreen phones over the last two years mostly in developed markets.

Nokia priced the phone at 279 euros ($395) excluding subsidies and taxes, which it said was roughly half the price of the other main touchscreen phones on the market. "The phone is competitively priced and Nokia's competitive advantage is in emerging markets. When putting two and two together it's logical they start the roll-out from emerging markets," said analyst Neil Mawston from Strategy Analytics.

The research firm expects Nokia to ship more than 10 million touch-screen phones next year. Nokia said the roll-out was similar to that for many other phones, adding that adjusting phone software to meet the different needs of operators in other markets will take some time.

So the phone pricing in India has to be ard 17k to 18k as iphone is for 31k for 8gb:clap:
