Nokia Lumia 610 pictured below, will be the company's entry level Windows Phone handset. The device is expected to feature a 3.2" screen, 3MP camera, and Windows Phone Tango on board. Given the nature of the new OS, it shouldn't be a surprise if the device comes with 256MB of RAM.

The Nokia Lumia 610 will reportedly be priced at €175, when it hits the shelves. India will be one of the first markets to receive the device.

So a ~10k or even a sub 10k WP7 phone which will be released first in India! Guess Nokia has got its strategy right this time
<

It would be interesting to see how the Metro UI looks like in a small HVGA screen and how WP7 performs in a sub 1GHz device with just 256MB RAM!

Why does they make low end phones so ugly? but, in sub 10k category, a windows phone may ring some bell. only the other option is focus, that too is unlocked version

I don't think Nokia will be able to penetrate sub-10k market with Windows Phone the same way they did it with Symbian in the past. There are few features (or lack of) such as -

1. No bluetooth transfer - people in India still use bluetooth extensively to share pics/music/videos. Specically the target demographic for low end smartphones. And all the Nokia handsets in the past had this feature so when people buy a new Nokia phone, they expect all the existing features + something more. Hence lack of bluetooth transfer is a major deal breaker. Maybe if NFC replaces bluetooth in near future then it will not be an issue. But if in the short term WP is not able to gather significant marketshare, who (read developers, customers) will care what they offer in long term?

2. Too much dependency on PC/Zune - many people (in the target demographic) may not have access to PC or Zune everyday. So adding music/videos or anything else will be almost impossible. Not all these customers will have 2G/3G data plans or WiFi access. So downloading stuff everyday (SkyDrive) is NOT an alternative. Cloud storage has no mainstream future in India for at least next 5 years.

3. Complicated custom ringtone support - really??? no simple straight forward custom ringtone support! Even 2k chinese/miromaxx/lava/karbonn etc have it! Indians love to flaunt loud irritating songs as ringtones. If they buy a handset worth 9-10k and they are not able to do such a trivial thing, they will be royally pissed off.

There are few other small issues...but those can be ignored coz they dont affect majority. But above 3 things are enough to put off a large percentage of customers.

If it were 512MB RAM and 1k price extra, @ 12k would have become a best seller IMO.

Bring a sub-10k 3.5" variant of this phone Nokia!

Go through any of the videos on YouTube of this Gorgeous phone. It looks stunning Design Wise especially in Black and also runs smooth even on a 256MB RAM, which I think is the only liability for this phone. It would have been great if Nokia had released it in place of Lumia 710 with 512MB RAM at the same cost.

I really think people should not obsess over the 256MB RAM part.. this runs better than any 256MB RAM Android phone out there.
