Nokia Lumia 800 Pre Orders Open

The issue is , we're comparing it to Android levels of HW which Mango really doesn't need. Its just a way of looking at it. A 1.4 Ghz processor enabled handset is certainly high end according to me. The phone is expensive because we're comparing it to competing Android handsets.. On the other hand even the HTC Radar with a 3.7" LCD screen , older gen proc and just 8GB of storage is about 23k ! The Lumia 800 is definitely not too overpriced in comparison to other WP7 handsets BUT it is higher than what we expected... especially compared to competing Androids.

/rant ( Hope you get what i meant :p)

I hope India joins the list too coz I like the execution of WP7 so far and hence have really high expectations from Apollo. Also as a long term Nokia fan, I want Nokia to come back strongly with WP7. And ofcourse the N9/Lumia 800 design is awesome! But I doubt the success at current price levels :(

Even HTC can demand some sort of premium for their phones.

Nokia with their track record of last 2 years do not deserve any.

30k price tag for lumia is simply stupid.

Sent from Galaxy S2

The nokia CC says pricing as 29,999 (wonder what is so bothersome to tell 30k) :p

Pricing should be around 25k (comparing HTC Radar).

Would have loved to see a 32/64 GB version of Lumia 800 around 30k mark - now that would have been sweet! :D

There is no point comparing HTC radar with Lumia 800 as Lumia 800 has much better design, camera, processor, gyroscope, compass, double the storage, Free offline navigation(nokia drive).

If you are considering Radar then its better to go for the Samsung omnia W at 20k which is a much better phone than radar which has slower processor, inferior screen and lacks compass, gyroscope.

@ RS4/Dhruv,

I just said that for the sake of a comparison. Most of the HTC phones are overpriced when compared to price/specs, as are some of the Sony Ericsson counterparts. Nokia has always been known for their bang for the buck phones. Just compared the two to see which way Nokia is taking. It sure as hell doesn't want to end up being like HTC.

Lumia 800 - 25k Max. Absolutely agree it has a gorgeous design, beautiful display and loads of other nifty features. What holds it back is possibly OS limitations, but hopefully Apollo will take care of that. That said, I do want Nokia to bring out smashing handsets in WP as well as a successor to N9 in Meego (Listening, Mr. Elop?)

And Dhruv we're still waiting for that review. Once these are launched officially in India can you do a side by side review of N9 and Lumia 800?

I'm making plans to steal those from you (FYI) :p but need to apply for leaves in office..

30k is perhaps tad over priced.Considering that is like 2-3k over the sgs2.But i guess both hold a diff place in their domains.

Wouldve loved to buy it in the 2-26k range.

Btw... i'd hold out till the OFFICIAL prices are out. LetsBuy has the handset for 26,500 which is a very fair price according to me.

@Chiron : Coming soon :)

Nokia Lumia 800 review: New beginnings - GSMArena.com

Main disadvantages:

Display is much dimmer than the N9's display

No Flash or Silverlight support in browser

No USB mass storage (file management and sync pass only through Zune)

No video calls and no front-facing camera either

Non-user-replaceable battery

No memory card slot (and no 64GB version like the N9)

microSIM card slot

No native DivX/XviD support, videos have to be transcoded by Zune

The bolded points are quite bad IMO. For 30k and such disadvantages. :(

^ A certain iPhone which costs about 10K more than this, also doesn't have 4 of those 5 things those guys mentioned as disadvantages.

^Yup, same reasons I didn't get an Iphone. Never knew that WP 7 had such restriction. Further in the review, they said that camera is average and sound quality is not that great either. Also, there is no "true" multitasking. Its similar to iOS.

Exactly , and we don't find people complaining about it :)

Define "true multitasking" , Technically i know what you're talking about but i'm of the opinion that if a user doesn't notice the lack of it... it makes no difference. If you can stream music in the background , have auto updating apps , receive push messages.. you really don't need much more.

I agree with the camera , it is not as good as my N8 :) SQ is subjective though... i don't find it lacking but the sound quality on my N9 is sooo bad :S

Here's a shot i took the other night. It looks a bit dull but this is very accurate to what the scene actually was... i was actually surprised that it was able to capture this. Even my N8 struggles a bit with such low light , no Flash shots.

There has been an update to the Lumia 800, which does improve a bit on the camera side and the battery life. Also WP design is not to follow the android way or even the old WM6.x way, where the file system, registry was exposed and letting the user customize it the way they want. WP wants uniform design and experience across and after using it for over 3 months now, i am not complaining :)

If you want file system access, just head to chevron labs and unlock your device to get all the homebrew apps.

Yeah, but the advantages of that probably outweigh the advantages of the Lumia 800
