Nokia N9 : MeeGo Phone

Definitely can't run iOS apps :)

Alien Dalvik will be available commercially and already does support MeeGo so it shouldn't be much of a stretch to get it on this :)

@ Hatter : Regarding 1080p Flash Video... This is where choice comes in , you want those.. you have your Androids. This is a niche device i'll give you that. Multitasking, this pulls it off better than ANY smartphone out there. Takes great HD video as well.

Try playing a 1080P high-bit rate clip (X264) with a single core phone

If I need a phone to make calls and send SMS, I will get a Rs 3,000 phone. I want to show it off I will buy an iPhone. But if I want to do something more, what are my options. Show me a single core phone that can:

- Play flash videos on youtube in 1080P

- Record decent quality HD videos

- Allow me to multi-task without any lag

- Allow me to open 10 tabs in a browser with full flash with no jitters

High-end phones are extension of our digital lives. Many people hook them to TVs, music systems etc... play videos, games on larger screens. It all requires lots of horsepower.

Yes, iPhone and Windows Phone have super smooth UI. But they are also limited and crippled in their usage.
1. I don't understand why you need to run 1080p on a phone.
2. Even decent cameras are not capable enough to record videos in HD quality, let alone phones.
3. I don't have any issues with multi tasking on current phones. You can pretty much open a few apps at the same time without any problems.
4. If you browse so much at once, you need a tablet or netbook.

I agree high end phones may be an extension of our digital lives. But you can't expect it to do things a PC can do. If you want to browse seamlessly with a gazillion tabs open, you need a tablet/netbook/laptop.
Sure you can hook up your phone to play videos on larger screens and a single core phone does that fine. But I don't expect it to play a 1080p file with 15mpbs bit rate and dolby 5.1, dts blah blah. I'm gonna need a HD player/HTPC for that.

A phone won't be able to replace every other gadget you have.

Even if we have dual core phones, we need the OS and software to properly utilize it completely.

Now some good news:

This is just sweet!! :D

Pretty impressive UI, too bad it's on a Nokia phone.

Weight has always been an issue with Nokia AFAIMC and this baby weighs the same as an N8. But beautiful interface nevertheless. Swipe :)

Another good article on Nokia and meego,i feel exactly the same for meego, now someone should fire Elop and let him go back to his real employer :cool2:

Editorial: Dear Nokia, you cannot be serious!
Even Engadget is doing such articles / editorials!!! :O Its 180 degree turn in their approach towards Nokia. And its not even 48 hrs yet

Looking at the N9 and knowing MeeGo's future inside Nokia makes me want to cry :(

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I hope this isn't true and Nokia does change their attitude towards Meego if this is true. It's really sad to see such a nice OS go down the dumps.
What the hell is going on in Elop's mind? :S

I don't know for sure, but nowadays, we have dedicated chips for HD encoding/decoding. So, may be the phones can come with that as well...

........

You know, this is what I fear. When Nokia comes out with WP later this year, if it lacks basic functionalities like USB mass storage mode, HDMI out and advanced features like USB OTG - which even current S^3 devices have...then people are gonna think twice before buying the high-end phones. And if I am not wrong, the WP at launch will have 20k+ price tag

I see one little ray of hope there. NOKIA got some exclusive rights to modify the WP7 OS as they want. May be they will integrate the UI and notifications of WP7 to the best features of SYMBIAN like the ones you've mentioned.

Aluminium shell and QWERTY!!! I've stopped liking plastic phones anymore after using the E72 and E7... :(
Aluminium/steel ones only add unnecessary weight to the phone ,on a whole i dont see any drawbacks of plastic body if they r properly built.
e.g. SGS2 is so lighter with its very very gud built plastic body.
