Nokia N9 : MeeGo Phone

Aluminium shell and QWERTY!!! I've stopped liking plastic phones anymore after using the E72 and E7... :(
one negative point of aluminium shell based phones is that the paint chips off when there is some impact/scratch etc and it looks really bad afterwards, that is why they have used polycarbonate and unibody construction,so the phone will look good even after some falls, scratches etc..

@akhurana This is not even competing with the Galaxy S2 man.. consider this something like a tech demo :p

Also.. after using it.. i'll easily pay 30k for this.
Ok, you should either spill it or shut up. This teasing is killing us.

1. I don't understand why you need to run 1080p on a phone.

2. Even decent cameras are not capable enough to record videos in HD quality, let alone phones.

3. I don't have any issues with multi tasking on current phones. You can pretty much open a few apps at the same time without any problems.

4. If you browse so much at once, you need a tablet or netbook.

I agree high end phones may be an extension of our digital lives. But you can't expect it to do things a PC can do. If you want to browse seamlessly with a gazillion tabs open, you need a tablet/netbook/laptop.

Sure you can hook up your phone to play videos on larger screens and a single core phone does that fine. But I don't expect it to play a 1080p file with 15mpbs bit rate and dolby 5.1, dts blah blah. I'm gonna need a HD player/HTPC for that.

A phone won't be able to replace every other gadget you have.

Even if we have dual core phones, we need the OS and software to properly utilize it completely.

My post was not about MeeGo or Android or iOS. I was just commenting on why hardware is important.

As for the phone replacing every other gadget is concerned, we will talk in 2015 ;-)

Not all, but it's going to replace many, trust me on this. The companies that fail to treat smartphones as the new computers, centre of our digital lives, will not survive. If you see, until now the problem of Nokia and RIM is that they are still considering phones as, well, phones. While Google and Apple have realized they these devices are more important and need to play a bigger role.

BTW... I am out of this talk. Don't want to stretch it. If anyone agrees with my opinion nice... if not, please have your own. Having your own opinion is nice too :)

Hahaha ! What do you want me to tell you dude ? You've already seen everything :p And regarding the techdemo.. what i meant was, just look at this as what Nokia *CAN* do. Nobody honestly expects this to be a mass market success.

What I got from that post was that Nokia has some other even more amazing device of which N9 is a "tech demo" :p

Do they?

Honestly, what on earth were Nokia thinking when they jumped into bed with WP? This is SO much better. This phone with Alien Dalvik on it is a potential TOP TOP phone.

Nah... the N9 eez AWESOME :D

@wr8_utd Nope , it makes perfect sense. There is a huge market which will not buy a phone unless it comes with stuff like Netflix , Hulu , Spotify etc etc... y'know commercial stuff. The N9 might look great, but will it ever have those mass appeal apps ? Definitely no. It will never have the kind of games being made for iOS , Android and WP7. XBox Live integration on WP7.

Thats why i say that the N9 is more like a tech demo of what all is currently possible with Nokia's technology. Windows Phone on the other hand makes perfect sense as a mass-market smartphone.

But gotta say this.... can't wait till i can get my hands on that 64gig black N9 :D Till then , the E6 :p

##########Thread BUMP###################

@Dhruvrock: Any insight into, when this device may get into our shores? I am terribly eager to get hold of one of these.. As of now, the availability is NIL for INDIA as per europe.nokia.com
And what really freaks me out is that Bangladesh figures in the drop down list!!!!!

^ The device will never be officially available in India if that's what you are asking. However, it is being sold on eBay for around 32K
