I KNOW NOTHING
Forerunner
It was announced a couple of days ago that Nokia’s N97 was going to be out this month in 75 countries. India was of course one of them. Today the handset was showcased in Delhi in all its glory. Sadly though, there’s still no pricing attached to the device yet, which is quite annoying, considering there’s plenty of speculation going around about the heavy specs the handset is loaded with. For those of you who are still unaware of the features, I don’t see how, but here’s a quick recap.

IMAGE:- http://tech2.in.com/media/images/2009/Jun/img_148732_img_148002_img_101921_nokia-n97.jpg

The handset will run on an ARM 11 434 MHz processor on a Symbian OS (v9.4) with a Series 60 UI. It’s going to be ready for social networking and connectivity to Nokia’s new OVI store. Other features will include -

* A 3.5-inch TFT resistive touchscreen, with 16M colors and a 360 x 640 pixel resolution

o The screen has an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotating the display

o Supports handwriting recognition

* It has a slide out full QWERTY keyboard

* 3.5mm earphone socket that doubles up for a TV out for audio and video

* Stereo FM radio with RDS, Visual Radio and an FM Transmitter

* Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0 (micro)

* 3G (with HSDPA), EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi

* a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics

* GPS with A-GPS support, a Digital Compass and geotagging

* 32GB of internal storage as well as support for microSD cards

* Pocket office preloaded

We’re estimating the handset to be worth approximately Rs. 36,000 give or take a few thousand and it’s more likely going to take a few. We’ll know soon enough so stay tuned.

Only 35k:D !!Awesome;) !! Go Nokia Go:hap2: !! This will take every opponent out of the game:D ...I feel sorry for SE, samsung, etc fan boyzz:P :tongue:

i played with it for 10 mins..... totally disappointed with it...

The touchscreen is not upto the mark... the Dpad is a pain to use... and the QWERTY keyboard is hard to press :(

35K is a wee bit more for this device, I'll wait for a price stabilization.

Wow Icefusion, that's some info. & taken out the steam! Even I don't carry high hopes with this phone.

Nokia has lagged behind other manufacturers now, they are pretty quick with launches & game has moved to 12mp. Whereas, Nokia is still pondering on 5mp!

Do you really think that 12MP camera phone is required???
A 12MP camera phone can never replace even a 7MP or 8MP standalone point and shoot camera. Mobile phone cameras are very small in size and they can never capture the level of detail which can be achieved by a digicam.

So, a 12MP camera phone will be more like a showoff rather than a necessity.

A 5MP camera phone like the N95 8GB or N82 is more than enough for everyday use.

Thank God Nokia is a little bit less gimmicky than the other manufacturers.

Its not about requirement, its about market dynamics!
8-12mp is where the market has moved to, one has to face competition.
Its a fact Nokia's market share has decreased because its slow with tech. & products (period).

Please do a little reading - I'm a long time Nokia owner myself and quite like their handsets but that to a large extent other handset companies have been more innovative and are eating into their market share. Obviously Nokia still being the undisputed leader still has quite a bit of margin over the next manufactuer.

WOAH! Another N series phone! Man i will buy it before my friend buy and get better girlfriends than mine... damn i want this phone this minute... before my girlfriend leaves me for someone who has this contraption! :lol:

so what to buy now? N97, Touch Diamond2, Omnia HD and perhaps new iPhone nano.. so many good phones in the 30k-35k range!!!

What you want more from it?? Specify..

See, am using N82 right now....now looking at N97 the first thing that comes to my mind is-- No Xenon Flash ! Yea, I use my N82 to take a lot of pictures. Secondly, N97 has only 128mb RAM(thats way too less for a flagship phone), then to its processor, single 434Mhz ARM11 CPU which means hardware acceleration is not supported. C'mon man, you are taking 37k from us, then atleast give us a powerful cpu(at least 600Mhz) and xenon flash . Samsung's OmniaHD lies in the similar price range and is based on OMAP3 chipset, 800MHz cpu, much more powerful than N97.
