Nokia to Adopt Windows Phone

all those skeptical about WP7, please use a device and then u will come to know how it is. It does have its shortcomings but every new OS does. All my friends and colleagues having iphone 4 and galaxy S thought i was stupid paying so much for my Omnia 7, but they didn't have much to say after using the phone. Its a beautiful OS.

I think its good for both parties looking forward to what they come up with. Nothing is stopping Nokia from getting on the Android boat and I expect they will do so in the not very distant future, they have to the android market is huge they will definitely want a slice of it. Nokia could very well use the experience from making a good win-mo smart phone and apply it to making a android phone.

Symbian is a very capable OS. Anyone who has used a Symbian phone for a decent duration of time would have recognized that. The primary problems with Symbian were that it had an outdated UI compared the sexy UI's put out by the competition, and it is a very difficult platform to develop for. From a native developer perspective, there was too much un-intutive stuff going on (Enters/Leaves instead of exceptions, etc), whereas Android APIs seems much more easier to grasp.

While Symbian is not abandoned yet, one cant help feeling that now it'll be treated as an orphan, with WP7 taking the favoured status.

I think they've made a big mistake here. With WP7, they'll be just another vendor in the MS ecosystem. With Symbian, had they been able to fix the UI, and get Qt as the native API, then they would have been masters of their own fate. Now, their wagon is hitched to the MS donkey :-p

All I know is that this is great news for the end consumers. There is a third front opening up. And in the affordable category, we will have both Android and Windows phones to choose from. iPhone costs as much as a Laptop in India so I don't think I will ever buy it.

WSODs are common in certainly all phones.

But more to add, i have myself seen RSODs on many of my friends HTC Windows platforms which after that they had to give it to service centers for repairs.:(

And for any hardcore symbian users like me, they might have even seen BSODs using some apps which weren't freshly installed after a firmware update. But the cool thing among Nokia is YES you can KILL the BSODs without even restarting the device;). But theres no workaround for WSODs bcoz it is caused due to processor lag times or proccy going into loops-----what we call as hanging.

Thus WSODs are common on symbian & windows platform.

I wonder if there could be legal (conflict of interest) issues.

Just noticed a link on this blog: Thoughts about Nokia, Microsoft and Qt - Zchydem's Blog

Btw, Stephen Elop is the 7th biggest non-institutional owner of Microsoft stock. Check this link. You can make your own conclusions of that.

Link: MSFT: MICROSOFT CORP Institutional Ownership

I mean, Elop is helping MS (and himself) while damaging Nokia whos stock is already tumbling.

MS unable to get Motorola to go Windows (suing them too) nor Nokia til Elop came around.

There are few ppl who are still loyal to nokia and love windows based mobile....

Hopefully,Nokia would try to bring android by 2015..!!

Sent from my HTC incredible using Tapatak.

I dont understand why you guys are so negative about it? Its like the best software for mobiles + Best hardware for mobile combo! Any way, we'l see soon! :P

Win Phone 7 still has a long way to go before it even comes close to Android...

As for Nokia, they are surely trying something new this time.

But why should one shift to [Nokia + WP7] from [Samsung/HTC + Android] is the question that doesn't have logical answers!! :S

And I am not even considering [Motorola + Android] (remember the Defy??) in the equations!! :P

It will definitely be an uphill battle for both WP7 and Nokia from here on, but that so called "three horse race" is ON! (iPhone, WP7, Android). Nokia+WP7 can/will be a killer combo.

I hope MS restricts/reduces itself to a few selected partners like Nokia, Dell, LG, Samsung and HTC - thats it :)

Personally I wish Motorola (me fanboi) now also jumps on to the WP7 bandwagon, I would definitely make a Moto+WP7 my next phone.

Intel will struggle to get a good smartphone form factor for a few more years, they can only count on tablet market for now, and there I sincerely wish Qt+MeeGo get some life breathed in to them after this Nokia+WP7 tragedy heh.

Who knows? Intel might have already jumped into the Android side. I don't think they are stupid enough to just think that MeeGo will give them a break.

I am not against Windows in anyway, being a Windows user for the last 7 years. It's just that when they dumped Qt like that....

I too feel that this is better for Nokia than becoming another Sun at the end. Still Qt....

The Nokia Plan B has turned out to be a hoax. Now, there is something better :)

Nokia Plan S

first i don't agree that symbian is poop
a bit outdated and crippled by nokia's 'symbian signed' stupidity maybe
look at its history and then judge
(power efficiency and multitasking from ages for example)
but they have fared badly for touchscreens
the head guy at nokia now taking of dumping symbian and going with win 7 was with microsoft before this i think??!!
Conspiracy theory??, anyone :)
