Galvanizer
Ok, so i finally got the package today :) (was out of station so it was with a friend for the last 1 week!:ashamed: )

now, queries:

1. wat do i use to clean the goo from the proccy? went to a chemist and all they had was spirit (96% ethanol). is that and some earbuds ok?

more to follow................:ohyeah:

A paper towel used dry, then some rubbing alcohol. Another dry paper towel. Finally some acetone or nail polish remover. Gets it all off.

The Freezer has MX-1 pre-applied. As good as AS5.

didnt or lets say cudnt wait for replies :P but this is kinda wat i did:

1. used paper tissues to clean it, then rubbed it with a 'spirit' soaked tissue, then again with a dry tissue. almost same as above i guess.

2. mounted the heatsink. didnt twist to seat it or anything though, it just got seated automatically types :ashamed:

3. now the thing is that i really dont see any difference in temps actually :( exactly the same as before (41-44 idle, 58-60 load) i did read that mx1 takes around 100 hours before working at optimum, so maybe i can hope for that to kick in a few days.......is it possible i missed something?

4. maybe my cabby ventilation's not good enuf? also, i had an 80mm slot in the side panel just over the proccy/heatsink. i have NOT disconnected this fan yet. would that make a difference?

EDIT: 4. disconnected fan over heatsink, no diff to temps.

EDIT2: opened up the side panel. CPU temps down just 1-2degrees. GPU up 2 degrees :P prob cos i have an 80mm in the sidepanel blowing on the GPU all the time ;) + my ambients are pretty high >30 i guess. (top floor + lots of windows for heatin the room )

..............

follow the instructions on the Artic Silver pages for removing old GOOP, I follow these instructions 100%, I use high quality Acetone and IsoPropyl alcohol.

Use the Acetone first to remove the old GOOP and then the alcohol to remove all traces of Acetone, handle the Acetone with care as it can damage plastics, it is a solvent.

Arctic Silver, Inc. - Instructions

If you want to know the differences between Ethanol and Isopropyl alcohol read this page

What is the difference between isopropyl, propyl, denatured and...

ok..so like i said earlier, i already applied the stuff but temps dont seem to be dropping :( wat to try now? shall i try removing and fixing it again? dont have any more paste tho ..... me confused.

could be that you've not fixed the heatsink properly.. check whether its seated properly. and reseat it.

will try removing and fixing again once i get home :( but i thought it was a pretty secure fit. n since it hasnt dropped off yet considering that its vertical in my cabby n temps are at 44 so some contact is there at least. nz, keepin my fingers crossed :(
