CPU/Mobo (noob alert) what is x79?

I read the Wiki, but I don't understand. Is it like new platform after x86/i386? Does it come with new instructions set or something?

I see some motherboards having support for it.

No, it's an enthusiast chipset. Just like the X99 is for the new 59xx cpus.
