There as private imports as well. Will samsung india compensate for them too ? overseas shipping them back is a hassle

You'll have to return it to the retail outlet you bought it from, although I'm not sure if they'll honor international warranty but they just might since it's banned on flights and no courier company in their right mind will accept it.

Yea but it's only for surface shipments, still doesn't clear doubts about international purchases, not really important but Mr. India up top wants an answer.
Head to your local Samsung service center to get the battery removed and then ship it maybe ?
