RAM prob doesnt, depends on the company. nz, when claimin it, u can always remove an extra stick, assumin u didnt change both pieces ;) thats mostly allowed i guess.

HDD will 99% void warranty unless done by the original company/service center ;)

jus keep the org HDD with you . incase a problem pops up simply replace it with the org one n give it to RMA . all u have to do is open 2 -3 screws to fit in the hdd anyways

It depends on your laptop, Only u can look up its back side and find whether it has a sticker or not..My dell vostro doesnt hav any stickers on its back..

Read in one of the other threads that only acer puts that restriction..

theres no such thing as an authorised center for a RAM upgrade :P

cos they ll charge u 2-3 times the cost ;)

Are you an Acer employee by any chance :P

Arre Akshit...Just check if the RAM/HDD slot have a warranty sticker on them...

AFAIK, only the Acer pr**ks do that, but doesnt hurt to check...

Dell definitley does not void your warranty if you change the RAM/HDD (even the customer manual will have instructions on how to do it)

For a Compaq/Lenovo/what have you, you can always revert back to the original configuration if in (the unlikely) case you have to return the notebook for repairs

I know that very well about the cost factor, BUT in order to avoid blah, blah....

The thing is, authorized centres simply loot people purchasing laptops by charghing them 2-3 times the cost for upgrading RAM, HDD etc. This culture has been there before companies like Dell arrived on scene and allowed people to upgrade their laptops.

If you ask me, it's worth taking the chance of upgrading the unit yourself especially on low end laptops. RAM and HDD generally easily replaceable and are always a compromise on the low end.

Also, the value of a low end laptop is not much as the build quality, screen etc will also be compromised. So, It does not make sense spending more on upgrading a low end laptop at an authorized service centre. For the money they charge you, getting a better laptop in the first place makes sense if the cost is reasonable.

Also, does anyone take the extended warranties on offer? I was offered a 2 yr additional warranty for 6K for my Compaq celeron based lappy. I'm glad I did not go for it cuz today, it's not worth much and I'm always worried about what they would actually cover in the event of a problem.

Changing HDD will Void Warranty ... but in the case of RAM it will Not .. but still u have to be very careful in installation of RAM
