Hear this guys. I'm on Airtel Pre-Paid since ages. I used their top-up plan where you get 1000 Airtel to Airtel minutes valid for 30 days, for Rs.197.

For the last 3 days, I could not call a particular Airtel number. When I called it, nothing happened, just beep..beep..beep. I could call and receive from other numbers, fine enough.

The party that I was calling told me that when I called her mobile phone rang for fractions of a second and disconnected. We thought handset issues so both of us tried using alternative handsets...same problem.

So, I call CC last night, and he told me since their was excessive traffic between these two numbers, I could not call this particular number for a while and this would be restored after 2 days :S WTF!!!
Its true that I was calling that number for about 1 hour each day, but that's what I had paid for :@ .

Whats going on with Airtel....

you should report this to some newspaper and tv channel (awaaz or something)

Airtel seems to put a cap on everything I hope somebody puts a cap on their FUP.

^^ Its the largest telecom operator.... A few guys leavin wont do anything.... Heck they would probably like it that guys like us who actually use broadband to the max or make long calls to leave....

Legal proceedings would be a better course of action IMO....

Since you can call other numbers, get 5-6 airtel sims, call each number and leave the phones in call for as long as possible :)

Jst confirm from a different attendant by calling again. Let the callee do it this time.

Take the name of the CC Exec this time.

And if they actually give this reason again, then keep this number in the dumps till Number portability shows up. What good this logic serves on traffic between cellphones or even landlines for that matter??

This seriously is unheard of and Airtel needs to be boycotted for a day by as many people as possible.

PS: The title shd be edited to FUP on Prepaid Mobile Connection.

Would suit better and grab more attention, Highlighting the Plight.

I've mailed to their Grievance Addressal Nodal Officer. Let's see if he has any answers.

@spacescreamer: I got the complaint no. and the name of the exec. The only thing is, probably I should have turned on the call recorder ... but then I wasn't expecting such kind of answer. I'll try calling again, this time with call recording. But now that I have already mailed to the Nodal Officer, I wonder if my number would probably have been 'flagged' on some Airtel 'high-alert database' or something like that, and, whether I'll get the same answer now.

that's why i suggested ask the callee this time round. Again note down the name of the CC person and complaint number.

and give her the details of how to record the fone call b4hand. Once that is done, anybody can nail Airtel to the wall.

Btw i am serious abt the boycotting of Airtel for a day. Cell phone, landlines and include the non submission of bills as well so that the chosen date doesnt witnesses any bill getting cleared. Absolute freeze on revenue. Airtel has been growing into a hideous service provider now.

Should serve a warning to all kinda Service providers and well before Aamir Khan decides to make a movie on this too.

All their hoplessly mindless magic tricks will work only till MNP is started(Oct 31st)!

Later operators like Tata Docomo are going to literally r@*e Airtel. So let them enjoy till then!

I think the CC Executive has a screw loose somewhere. Don't think the reason he stated can be true. You paid good money for the plan and there is even a 1000 minute limit. Its not like its an unlimited plan. You should contact another executive. If they state the same thing, then take them to court.

Just for info I am also on a pre-paid plan and over the last 4 years I have been calling home every day for about 1 hour (2 hrs even rarely) spanning across 1 to 4 calls per day to the same number. Never had a problem like you mentioned.

I think the airtel bosses have lost their minds. They are going to lose their customers very soon. Broadband FUP and now this.

@OP: The nodal officer should help you out though. Suggest you call him instead of emailing.

Well I dunno, may be he's correct, may be he's a nut. But two things, firstly, my calls were almost always continuous, not spanning 1-4 as yours. Second, I heard Airtel was having some network issues, with MCD sealing its towers and a case is on in the High Court...so, like I said dunno.

^^ Actually mine is also only one call of 1 hr per day on weekdays. Its only on weekends that there are multiple calls.

^^ I don't know what the reasons are ... but remains a fact that:

a) I cannot call just that one particular number

b)I used to call this number a lot and for long durations

c) nobody, as in no third-party, has given instructions to Airtel to block calls between these numbers

d) I couldn't have burnt their satellites or communication lines or whatever, by talking one hour continuously

e) The other party can call me fine, but she is on post-paid and is not using any special discounted rates like I was (remember 1000 minutes for Rs.197/- ... under ordinary recharge it would have cost me Rs.1000/- @ Re.1 per minute in my plan).

... that leaves me with a suspicion that the guy maybe right. Unless of course they think we are terrorists talking in code, and zoinked us for security reasons! Maybe even the Thoughtpolice is at my door right now :S

And if they actually give this reason again,

Just as I had expected. I called again, this time with call recorder in place. But the CC guy simply stonewalled. I repeatedly asked him the reason for the issue and he repeatedly kept parroting "technical problems". I told him I'm qualified enough to understand these technical problems, so tell me the exact nature of the 'technical problem', and he came back with the same response, "Sir, its a technical problem". Five minutes back-and-forth, I got fed up and hung up. From now, I'll keep my call recorder in an 'always-on' mode. :@
