From leaked company e-mail:

I don’t know how much this will mean to you all but for those that don’t know a war has just started that will likely be written about for years and which will affect everyone who owns a PC. Everyone.

Basically the CPU is dead. Yes, that processor you see advertised everywhere from Intel. Its run out of steam. The fact is that it no longer makes anything run faster. You don’t need a fast one anymore. This is why AMD is in trouble and its why Intel are panicking. They are panicking so much that they have started attacking us. This is because you do still [need] one chip to get faster and faster – the GPU. That GeForce chip. Yes honestly. No I am not making this up. You are my friends and so I am not selling you. This shit is just interesting as hell.

The mail is attributed to Roy Taylor, a senior sales guy with Green Team

Nvidia declares the CPU dead - The INQUIRER

Oh yeh... like I said in another thread... 2008 is going to be year of Intel vs. nVidia. :)

Either nVidia is sitting on something very very good tech or they are shit scared of something about Intel's nehalem and larrabee, and flanking words around. Personally, I wouldn't like to be against Intel unless I've some solid secret weapon... more than that, to fight Intel you need to do more and talk less (what AMD did to Intel in Netburst days). But then history shows that Intel can afford to do mistake, as they have massive backing to invest in large scale R&D and repair their mistake. Fanboy-ism aside, Intel has always shown that they learn from their mistake, improvise and take care not to repeat the same mistake again.

I hope nVidia comes up with something more solid than dramatic stand and fierce words... Whatever the truth is, it's going to be very interesting fight.

NVidia is talking big, but it is of no use. GPUs have much too high power ratings (which is a big issue nowadays in both servers and laptops), and their performance on non-vector/stream code is worse than pathetic.

CUDA is a rehash of stuff I've seen over 5 years ago. Problem is, the things you can use it on are already trivially solved using OpenMp and CPUs... so no one is going to jump. I would certainly not mind using a GPU for general purpose computation, but only in addition to a CPU.

They are right in that GPU performance seems to be scaling while CPU is not. But GPU perf is really only scaling in one area - pure gfx. In general purpose computing, it scales only somewhat better than CPUs. And in a couple of years time, even that gap will diminish.

What will ultimately happen is you'll go back to having just one processing unit which will basically be a CPU with vector/stream units (no, I don't mean those lousy SSE/Altivec units, but proper vector units).

What would be nice is when Nvidia releases Oct core CPU's (@ 4 GHz each) embedded with their Killa GFX 10k series (successors to the 9xxx line of cards) card and MOBO all 3 in for about 25k

Intel would kill them selves

@Amandeep ; Dream a little for me by The Beautiful South... :P

Also....

Technically that's a correct sentence, Only Intel can kill Intel. :D

I would agree Kingkrool... nVidia is dreaming big.

Lots of ppl. dont game, most ppl never need any stuff in the box thats worth benchmarking.....nvidia appeals to the remaining.

Its like someone who seldom plays CS, how on earth does it matter whether he gets 60 fps from a 6 series GPU or 600 fps from a monster GX2.

CPU's seem to have evolved quite a lot...a Core 2 is great for atleast 5 years to come, and none except the enthusiasts should worry if Intel goes on a nap for 5 years .

Going after more processing power isnt the best bet....IMHO processing power per unit energy matters more. Green Power, AI, Smaller/Efficient/user friendly stuff is much more important in today's context.

products like havendale seem to have a much brighter future

Sound card never had a largescale market. Besides quality still scores with the section of people it used to cater to prev...

you can play a lot of good games on onboards nowadays. they are as good as high power graphic cards of yesterday. the amd780 is really awesome.:D

Well, if you want to play the good games of yesteryears then onboard will do... But I am not talking of the games of yesteryears, so we need more power than the card of yesteryears... Simple :)

you can play games of today with onboards. i could run cod4 with the outdated 6100 onboard. and the soundcards are mostly for fooling people. people think that they are getting better quality sound just because if it is comming from a card. if you were to put these people through a double blind test then they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between onboard and a card.:ohyeah:

Onboards cant play most current games with reasonable details on the native res of current 19" LCDs...

Regarding the soundcard remark all I can say is "You need to visit an ENT specialist mate" :P

What speaker/sound card combo have you tested?

but what are they sweeping???????

do you even know which forum you have landed????? stop making any further of those foolish statements that you have made. Go back from wherever you came from, make these claims and be hailed as the next einstein but out here you are just making a fool of yourself, and god forbid might be influencing some other noobies with those ridiculous ignorant posts.

i think you should do a course on basic manners and etiquette before posting on any forum on the net. applying an ice pack to the cranium will be of limited use.

@vijayninel

Dude, Thats a nice pic of urs in your avatar :hap2:
looks like its easier for you to apply ice on your cranium :P
