While nVidia still don't have Direct X 11 parts out in retail yet, they are keeping the hype going in various ways. The latest are some pictures they posted on their official Twitter page showing Tom Petersen, Director of Technical Marketing showing his new PC, a MainGear Shift machine with a Core i7 processor, DDR3 memory in a tri configuration and a pair of Geforce GTX 300 cards in SLI mode.

Interesting facts we learned are that the new cards are no bigger than the GTX285, the last generation high end single core card at 10.5 inches.

We hope to learn more in January during our meetings with nVidia at CES 2010

^^

No offense to Anubis.

But this seems like total crap to me. What the heck is nVidia doing. Creating stupid hype. What should we term this as 'an air launch'. They have missed the bus, for sure.

No bro i don't mind

I posted what i saw.

I felt like sharing with my Fellow TE 'ians

Sorry about OT... but seeing Tom in this pic with that rig, I just can't resist recalling certain comments he had made earlier...

Not so long ago he was the man who said that Core i7 is waste of money for gamers (which is sort of, kind of true... but coin has two sides). So it's kind of ironic to see him sporting a Core-i7 rig. It's like saying... "Core i7 is waste of money for gamers, but I ain't gamer and I got lot of money." :bleh:

On the topic though, enough with underhand hype tricks... if you've the silicon running, even in engineering sample state.. leak some numbers. How's that for a hype?

The card was supposed to have full of dangling wires, i can't see any of those. so this can't be a real fermi..

PR work none-the-less ..:bleh:

Why only one card has DVI connector and that too one... or my eyes are deceiving me ;)

:O

zoomed and there are absolutely no other ports on the cards ...at least none are visible...

^Those connectors aren't exactly clear in the photo either! Those vents are blocking it.

zoom in the 2nd pic around the dvi connector..

the slot protectors are not yet removed from the cabinet.....not even a single.
the slot plate o the card are generally not coated..should look silver..

and it is a little silver around that dvi port... something fishy...

^^ Exactly. If Fermi is indeed going to live up to all the hype being created around it and so much better than the competition, then the best thing nVidia could do right now is leak some performance numbers into the media. Its nothing new and both ATi and nVidia have done that in the past. It makes a lot of sense. A considerable chunk of people who are buying HD5xxx series right now may prefer to wait a bit if Fermi is going to be so sensational. Instead all they are giving us are these stupid photos.

^^

They cannot release the performance numbers for one basic reason. nVidia does not have the numbers themselves. I guess the courier boy is still standing at the TSM foundry gates..waiting..waiting..waiting......while ATI sells...!

The best combo now is ATI 5770 - 10k(kolkata)

Crossfire it with another ATI 5770 in 3-4 months and you have a combo powerful than ATI 5870 but is cheaper by 6k

I would hazard that another reason to not release numbers would be to keep everyone guessing on purpose. That would include AMD as well

^^ While losing customers to AMD because the customers don't know whether a working Fermi card even exists or when its going to come out in reality. I don't think so.

When they send the message that Fermi is going to release as close as next quarter, They ought to back it up with some numbers (even if not officially) to convince potential customers to wait for them (more so after the dummy Fermi card fiasco nVidia did previously)

Also whats the point of keeping AMD guessing at this stage. AMD is already their selling cards nVidia claims theirs will be out next quarter and its not like if they find out now that Fermi is far superior, they can do anything about it except lowering prices and maybe lose money.

it's the gt300 tesla mostly

But the picture with Nvidia guy clearly has GeForce written on the cards. They are not supposed to be Tesla cards.

unless, Nvidia has pasted a Geforce sticker on Tesla cards and passing them off as gaming cards to keep fanboys happy.

IMO:

The "Marketing guy" is just showing off Nvidia Geforce GT310 cards, which are basically rebranded GTX2xx series cards.

And the website is participating in the hype.

Totally useless news.

Fermi architecture will most probably be ready for showoff by Q2, 2010.

Fermi will release on Q2 2010 and will take a blow from AMD's next gen D11 Hectanocheires in Q3/Q4 2010 even before properly establishing itself.

Nvidia is going to have tough time dealing with 2 gens of DX11 by AMD

Neither will the high end become Nvidia safeplace, and mainstream definitely will not be Nvidia safeplace

It'll take a blow from both the low as well as the high

I can't wait to see this sight.

Nvidia is going to be sandwitched between ATI's current gen DX11 and next gen DX11 Hectanocheires
