Graphic Cards Nvidia GT200 thread

Geforce GTX 280 and GTX 260 to launch on June 18th
We've found out what looks to be the launch date for GT200 cards. We are happy to report that both GT200 cards are single chip cards, something that we've suggested back in January.

The launch should take place on the 18th of June, just in the middle of week 25, and at current schedule that is two days after ATI's RV770 launch.

The name Geforce GTX 280 looks a bit odd, but I am sure that we will get used to it. The only other alternative was to use Geforce 9900 cliché but we believe that GT200 deserves better name. As its been suggested at many occasions GT200 chip will have significantly more Shader units and the most frequent number that we heard was 240. We still work on getting the confirmation of this bold spec.

Nvidia just ran out of numbers and it’s starting all over again. It's like reseting the odometer, more or less.

I guess no matter you are a AMD or NVIDIA fanboy, you will love to see some real GeForce GTX 280, not those mechanical drawings. Here is a small leak pic of GTX280. I guess the original source don’t want to be traced so he/she just scale down the pic

The last few cards which impressed me were GF Ti4400,Radeon 9800 Pro, GF 6800GT and Readeon X1900XT... 8800GT was released prematurely so it just made everything obsolete in there...

Hopefully the next gen is as good as the above mentioned were when they were released... Almost doubble the performance over the last gen at $350 price point...

GeForce GTX 280 is going to be a mighty beast. The GT200 core impressed us from the very beginning in matters of raw performance. Alas there have been little information on the real-life performance of the card, other than statements that it runs Crysis fine at certain settings and that it scores 7000 points in the Vantage Extreme profile. We've been provided some more solid information based on the performance in Stanford's Folding@Home client. A slide recently presented says that GeForce GTX 280 will be capable of folding slightly more than 500 mol/day, which is three times more than what Radeon HD 3870 can do, about 170 mol/day (according to the slide), or five times more than PlayStation 3; 100 mol/day.

f@h on nvidia cards should go a long way in beating out the ps3 folding,and the fanboism that comes with it.
though is the architecture of new nvidia cards that different from the g80,g94 cores that it can support f@h?

according to Nvidia - information was posted at a German website - GT200 cards supported by CUDA can encode HD video in minutes whereas Intel's quads take hours to do the same job.

It says with GT2XX cards, a number of HD clips can be encoded simultaneously. If true this is simply impressive.

First photoshop and now videos... does Nvidia really have a wonder chip in its hands?

its supposed to be a monster ..considering it has more dan a billion transistor packed in it as compared to 700 million in a R770.

Also the fact dat Nvidia is pushing CUDA so hard and dat developers are starting to code using CUDA gives Nvidia the extra advantage.

apart from folding ..the next edition of Photoshop will also use cuda..also the physx implementation of agiea along with naturalmotions morpheme animation engine will be implemented using CUDA.

BTW morpheme is the advanced version of euphoria engine used in GTA4.

plus the video encoding stuff.

there is a lot dat CUDA promises and has the potential for ..its jus dat Nvidia will have to c dat it gets realized.
