Hi,

My complete PC Configuration is

AMD Phenom 1 X4 9550 X4 of 95 watts running stock
Gigabyte MB GA MA78GM S2H ver 1.1
Palit 4850 sonic edtion
One single 1 TB hard drive
One DVD writer

and a Corsair VX 450

May be I am asking a bit too much but will my corsair VX450 handle a Nvidia 470 GTX..

Most of the sites say that the 470 needs 35 amps on the 12V rail and the VX450 gives 33 amps.... I also refered to the Corsair PSU calculator and it suggested me that i will be fine with a VX450..:)

But I need the input from u guys too...so please help me out on this :huh:
 
I agree with you cranky and I know that I will be pushing the VX450 to its extreme limits but I have read across a number of sites that corsair VX 450 is really a under rated PSU and one more thing is that

I may be already taking around 200 watts for the 4850 which i have because it is already the over clocked version with a 8 pin connector...and the 470 has a TDP of 215 watts...so i thought i may be just in line with the 470 with my VX450
 
i have 470 gtx. u need to upgrade minimum 550w

I would surely upgrade myself to a TX850 in 2-3 months...its just till January I have to run the 470 with the VX450...

And do this Over voltage and over current protections kick in when u are trying to pull more out of the PSU means if any one has experienced can share there experiences...as far as I know the PSU shuts down itself in case of such a situation...
 
There was somebody on these forums who had problems with a VX450 and a HD4890, let alone the GTX470.

As a general rule, stay within the (card) manufacturer recommendations because any (PSU) over-rating is not within specification and therefore not guaranteed. Also, if a supply only has one PCI-E connector, use a card with only one PCI-E connector. The adapters don't always work, and don't always work well. It could work, but it may not.

PCI-E specs are as follows: slot: 75W, 6-pin 75W, 8-pin 100W. The 8-pin adds no supply connectors, just two ground legs. So a card with one 8-pin connector is 175W maximum and a 4850 at full tilt is not more than 150W. A GTX470 is significantly north of 200W, slightly more than you want to draw. If you add the 95W theoretical maximum of the CPU and look at a 350W power draw from the 12V rail, you're asking for about 30 amperes from it.

This is (just) within the capabilities of the power supply. Whether it is within the spec of the connectors and adapters that you will need to use is another question entirely.

I agree that we should stay within the manufacture specifications and all but many a time we have seen that most of the manufactures always suggest for at least 50 -100 watts more PSU than required...

For example I just read on Guru3d that a 5850 requires to have at least 40 amps on the 12 V rail but may ppl are ruuning the 5850 easily on the VX450 agreed that the 5850 TDP is lesser than that of a 470
 
5850 is borderline for the VX450. It's a terrific supply, but normally we run PSUs at a maximum of 80% load to reach the ideal balance between power delivery, efficiency and life. It's still your call. Maybe you get the GPU and see how the supply fares (the temperature of the exhaust after a couple minutes of Furmark should be a good indication of distress) and if required, get a new supply.

Even i dont wanna risk my PC components for a period of 3-4 months ,,,,will try once how it runs,,,if it starts giving problems like crashing,,randoms shutdowns and all then will upgrade,,,cheers
