Giive it up guys, which other phone has been able to maintain the top position for such a long duration in the recent past?

I'd love to see a better phone come around but doesnt seem like there is any round the corner

What top position are you taking abt??
In terms of sale?
In terms of number of people using it??
What?
Only place where its top in is hype..

i had seen some article on tegra..
If they make it cost effective, then there's a Present generation phones killer here..
Secondly, what win mo needs is a really really good phone to turn around its fortunes..
Lastly, It needs a bit of styling..

Btw apart from the ipod, have you used any other apple product?

I don't own an iPod, I have tried several of them and didn't like the audio quality. (Nano, Classic, Touch). iPod is all about the easy user interface for the music on it. Audio quality is just mediocre. So when our company was giving out iPod classics as spot bonus, I just opted to get a digital camera instead.

As for other products, I use several of Apple's computer and server products on a daily basis. Two of the four workstations I have at office comprise of a 20" iMac (Intel) loaded with Tiger, Leopard and Win XP in triple boot and a Power Mac G5 with Tiger. Some of us also have been given 17" Mac Book Pro's as portable workstations. Apart from that, I also use a high end Dual Xeon Quad based Mac Pro and XServe RAID 7 TB (14 x 500GB). Our company has close ties with Apple and so we get all new versions of their OS long before anyone else does.

I have a fair amount of exposure to Apple products, but I am impressed by very few of them. Some are outright bad (Tiger, Leopard) while many others are mediocre at best, Apple products are not special, they are as good or as bad as any other competitive product in the market. Bur somehow certain people show a lot of bias towards them.

A good phone! What WinMo needs is a complete rework to make it compete as an OS for the consumer market. Right now, it is only good for the Enterprise setup.

This view has been held by the WinMob team too! And they say that they expect to bring it up to the consumer easy by WinMo 8!

Ahhh... think again.. only those who understand the features of this device would go for it in its current state. How cool it would be to take this device out of your bag along with a HDMI cable at a get together of all the friends and connect it to the TV so that you can view the movie you want, instead of having to rely on the crappy collection of your friends.

Though, am not looking at it as a mobile, i would rather like a portable drive cum connectivity device with all the connectivity options it has now.

Oh really?

How many good phones has win mobile had till now?

Comparable with Symbian?

Or anything near the hype iphone gets?

Agreed, its not very very good, but something like tegra can change its future, Like you yourself said, imagine wat it would feel like taking out a phone with HDMI connectivity adn a much faster processor, and what it would mean for Win mobile..

It never hurts to say "in my opinion" and not make it sound like its a global philosophy..

Thats the point..Its not meant to be a "Device you take out from you BAG"

Its meant to be in your pocket as a phone..

Its pointless to see it as a portable drive..Lol..Calling whats meant to be a phone, a portable drive, Its almost insulting..

Yeah but they dont get anywhere near the hype that iphone or an Nseries phone gets..Thats the point im making.. Recent moderate successes like Touch, diamond hav got ms busy with making Win mobile 7.

Thats what, it was not designed for the consumer market. It is more suited for the enterprise market, and has some wonderful business phones.

HTC HD looks like to be the most feature rich WinMo phone till now, but as soon as you leave the TouchFLO app, its back to the ugly WinMo.

"In addition to MIDs, the NVIDIA Tegra 650 and 600 processors will be used in a wide range of innovative platforms such as embedded PCs, web tablets and more."

Don't limit the processor to mobiles only! Its meant to be used in many more devices than just the mere mobile. Providing HDMI output and all the other output options would mean that you have to sacrifice on the size and would require a much bigger battery too. Also, you won't be able to have a much higher capacity HD. Instead, the device I spoke of, is more of a Portable Media Playback. Which can be kept powered off in the bag, and even if it is sized as it currently is, wont be a problem/

Hmmmm... Sony Xperia X1 or HTC HD are getting as much hype as the iPhone and Nseries are getting.
As to your last line, "Recent moderate successes like Touch, diamond hav got ms busy with making Win mobile 7" , Win 7 has nothing to do with the success of Touch and Diamond. I am not able to find that article on WinMo, in which the WinMo team acknowledged the shortcomings of WinMo as a consumer mobile OS and they said that they are working to make WinMo more suited for normal users and would achieve the task by WinMo 8. And that article was before Touch or Diamond were released. I think i had shared that article with you.

wtf everytime a new phone is going to be released it is compared to the bloody iphone,is iphone the first and the last phone which has launched.Iphone fanbois stop comparing every other touchsreen phone with iphone.

RIGHT!! and its obvious that when i first mentioned abt styling, i meant the phone version of tegra, which everyone was talking abt..And it wil be a tough job to style it well and still keeping away from proprietary versions of hdmi port, smaller harddisks etc which would lessen the main aim of the platform.

My Bad, it was in my opinion.

YOu cant be serious...Iphone?? N95?

I remember that, and i also remember reading that MS said that win mo7 will be at par with the latest mobile Os, in terms of eye candy and multimedia etc.

Am no fan of the HTC or the Xperia, but if i remember correctly, the craze and hype for these devices is as much as the other devices, although nothing can compare with the iPhone, the iFans beat the others at this, Hype more than the worth.

They had said that the transition will begin in WinMo7 but will only be completed by WinMo8.

Yup, but they certainly are selling more units than the iPhone and yet, MS can't come up with a stable release that doesn't lock up every 25 seconds. Hopefully WinM7 will sort all of this out and we can have a worthy alternative.

Either ways, general trend is more towards usability, speed and functionality than features and sluggishness.

I have to admit, iPhone is the best phone I have ever used. I dig for features. That's the reason why I dumped my 18 day old iphone for a newly launched N95 8GB. No doubt the N95 8GB is an excellent phone. But at the end of the day when I look back at what I use the phone for everyday, I realized that the iPhone excels in that, no matter what. The activities are:

1. 'Web Browsing / Mail' The most frequent function used after 'making/receiving' calls. The iPhone kicks everyone's ass in this department. What an amazing experience. The ability to open new windows and seamlessly switch between them as well as breeze through the web pages using your finger is absolutely unrivaled.

2. Responsiveness: The phone is pure Makhaan. I haven't seen a device as responsive.

3. Oophm factor: No matter how much you deny, the sight of people giving you the glance when you are busy fiddling with the phone is pure bliss. Its for sure drool maal.

Now lets go to the other features like the camera. The N95 8GB has a good camera, but not as good as a digital camera. So the phone cam is good for candid shots, where you know you would be clicking snaps (like a picnic ) you anyway carry a digital camera. Besides the night capability of the flash is pretty useless. N82 owners are better off. But I still prefer a full blown digital camera.

Yea, the iphone misses the video recording feature which the N95 8GB owns any other phone with. Smooth 30 frames per second.

GPS, Nokia gives the the 3 month free voice navigation package. After that its freaking expensive. Though I must admit its awesome. Almost every nook and corner is covered. Sadly its only for a few cities, leaving the rest in lurch. I wonder when the iphone will have voice navigation (if it does let me know :))

Gaming is so freaking awesome on the iphone! I dont even need to explain. Besides the somewhat lame games, there are so many games that totally rock. There was this helicopter game, I dont remember the name that I played for hours together. The touch feature coupled with the gyro meter and the large screen make for an excellent experience.

Music is good in both. Though I rarely use it as I drive.

So the bottomline is, I use the phone mostly for web browsing and checking mails and after that is gaming to while away time and the occasional candid snap. For all of the above the iPhone rocks.

If you are wondering how I played with the iphone after I sold it, my GF has one and I used to keep swapping it with her.
