i think now amd is gonna win the war ...this is because of the two most important factors--

firstly , amd is agressively launching the powerpacked dx11 card giving hard punches to green company..

secondly, amd gpu are always launched in right time...and the pricing is also good..and nvidia always lag behind AMD in launching its product.

but the main disadvantage with the amd card as i have heard is that the drivers for these cards are not so good as compared to the nvidia cards..correct me if iam wrong...:)

so if nvidia really wants to do competition with amd then why they are not relaeasing this card at this time ????

Nvidia Just released the 460 Gtx. Give Nvidia a chance to develop GF 1040 which will be some new iteration of their GF104(GTX 460) and they can re-brand all their existing cards and sell them for 2 years claiming pc gaming is dead and DX 11 is still a nascent technology and PC gaming was at its peak in the DX 9/10 era. AMD on the other hand will release newer architectures. Nvidia is atleast 2 generations behind ATI/AMD. They've been trying to catch up AMD/ATI since the last 4/5 years. The only two notable successes they had were the 6600GT,8800GT and now the 460GTX. However all these cards were released atleast 5-6 months after AMD/ATI's next generation cards. I know because I fell for Nvidia's marketing ploy(Riva tnt, riva tnt 2 m64, geforce 2 mx 400, geforce 4 mx 440, geforce fx5200, geforce fx 5600,6600gt,8800gt and now finally ATI 5850)

I don't understand why people make an issue out of Nvidia's 460 trouncing the Ati 5770 and the 5830. The Ati cards were released almost a year back. An article I read in Tomshardware said that the each generation is approximately 6 months when it comes to GPUs. In that sense the Nvidia 460 is 2 generations behind Ati's offerings. I am going to sit and enjoy Nvidia failing. I was an Nvidiot from 1999--2010. 2010 onwards I am going to be an Atidiot.

The irony, eitherways you remain an idiot :P I have stopped caring about high end GPU's as the current mid end GPU's are able to play almost all games at 1080P settings at good details. What I really want is a card that is equally good as my current card (HD 4850) but should consume a lot less power. Dust busters are not enticing anymore :)

??? Err... What happened to the 8800 series and the 280 series? :S

Lets leave the fanboyism out of this.

I dont understand why you have an issue over buying the 6600GT or the 8800GT which were one of the best cards released from nvidia!

Nway, its best that you try getting the card which offers best vfm for that pricepoint instead of blinding following 'marketing ploys' or fanboyism! :)

@pegasus yeah you are right...the main concern is now to develop cards which consumes less power...every new card released by either nvidia or amd offers good performance but they allso have the same problem till now and that is high power consumption..

this thing should be taken care of by the companies now..as whenever the person thinks of buying a gpu now he also need to invest some more money in buying a psu....

i hope that the dream of having powerful gpu embedded on cpu becomes a reality in near future:) then we will not need these bulky cards in our system..

HAHA these chip wars are madness but essential from the manufacturer's point of view. The good thing for me as a gamer who always buy mid-range cards...it will drive prices down...so +5 for that NVDIA and AMD ATI ;)

"LOL that will mean Nvidia, which has already shot itself in one leg with Fermi taking a gun and shooting itself in other leg and to top it off taking a machete and chopping of the right arm. The GF100 is already a monster chip and to get 512Cuda cores and 512bit GDDR5 bus (which will be overkill in itself ) will be suicidal."
Sripad that was hilarious...LOL

but performance wise nvidia is good i think but the cards like gtx 460 are priced high in indian market this launch of amd cards will ultimately push nvidia to cut down the price ultimately giving benefit to customers that means we have laddoo in both hands inone hand amd 6850 laddoo :D and in other hand we have low price gtx 460 laddoo :D....

^ really? ATi and NV are stalling the development of game in terms of graphic quality?

Why don't you research over why developers are inclined towards developing for consoles and then port the same stuff over PC, instead of re-building the game for PC scalable to utilize vast configuration options? The high-end segment of graphic card available today is capable of delivering good graphic quality, but it doesn't make sense from economy perspective for game developers to create different codebase for different platforms. Consoles bring standards and makes developer's life easier and overall development process economically more viable.

Seriously... if you wanna blame anyone for stagnating gaming development, blame it on game developers/studios and consoles.
I wasn't blaming NV and ATI for stagnating anything.I was just saying it would be a lot healthier for the gaming industry if the graphics industry is more competitive.I might have slightly exaggerated on this but only so ppl get my point...and apparently I'm not that good at getting my point across.:P

I know developers are focusing on consoles because they are getting more profits out of it...thank you but i really don't need to research that.I'm also aware that its more economical for them to port games instead of making them from scrath for the PC.Clearly this is the main reason for the stagnation in graphics.

I just feel if graphics developed faster the next generation consoles would have arrived already and we'd have an XBOX DX11 console which would run tessellation in full glory, instead we're still stuck with DX9 and theres clearly not much scope for improvement in graphics.

Now we have to wait for a console refresh which happens who knows when till we can finally see better looking games.

Just my opinion.

There is not much out there, which currently is taping the full potential of these high end accelerators. Ok, if you play multi monitor then you might need the bad boys. Else the mid end cards scale quite decent on 1080pi -- which most of us have transitioned too. And honestly the power consumption scale hardly matters to e-peeners....!

Just wish ATI had focused more on driver support. I am sure they will start to neglect the HD5xxx series one the HD6xxx are out, like they killed the HD4xxx series. Heck the HD4xxx series still have the punch being two generations old now.

I have a hunch. 768 core, 512-bit memory interface.

C'mon guy doesn't it strike you guys??? This is no new CHIP, it's the FULLY ENABLED GF104 but two of them working in tandem like a GTX295. It all fits, 384*2-768, 256*2=512-bit, and GTX480 aka GF100 sucks, so nVidia took their winner silicon(out of the bunch of loosers) aka GF104 and doubled it. By now they hav had enuf time to optimize power and drivers, and collect a good measure of working chips. And we know nVidia's SLi is better than CFx.

Well, this is my hunch.
