PC Peripherals OCZ and GSKILL RAM problem

i just got a set of G-Skill RAM and when i tried to run my sys using my old OCZ RAM along with the NEW G-Skill RAM my sys would not boot.....but if i individually plug them in and run my comp.....they work just fine...its just that they dont seem to work together....the specifications of both RAM's are same....please help me out here guys....

Their SPD timings are different. and most probably the Vdimm requirement too.

Either you set the same timings and other settings manually in the cmos setup for both (which you cannot, evidently)

or
run just one co. ram module.

Boot with one set, go to bios and set loose timings, which you know will work with both the set, something like 5-5-5-15, also manually set vdimm, something like 2.1V. Save and shut down the computer. Add the second set of Ram. This ideally should work. If it doesnt then plz do mention the specs of both the sets.

^^^ nay that was just the Cut-Copy-Paste Error......both are DDR2....just updated the right info....check it out and lemme know.....my bad...
 
Abbe,, follow those instructions that banik gave.

Boot with one set. Go into the BIOS, set loose timings and around 2.0 voltage.

shut down.. add the other kit. and boot again. Your issue is due to the mismatched timings. You will need to run your OCZs at looser timings and your GSkills at a slightly higher voltage/

I hope you know what you are talking about, CAS latency is just one parameter of CAS timings, and I am sure you didnt mean that.

When I said set loose timings, thats what is CAS timings. So Yes you have to touch the CAS timings.....:bleh:

On that note, I dont think there is any reason you should use Gskill Ram first and clear cmos as some1 said. Boot with any set that allows you to boot. And then set timings and voltage to a safe limit at which both the sets will work.
 
^^ dear this will be the first time when i will be fiddling around in BIOS...so if i am not aware of some general things please bear with me.....as i am a noob on the various terms used here.....sorry....if i posted an illogical question....my bad....once again....

Open and read up the manual online for your mobo, me as usual feeling lazy to do that for you. Though it can be different, but I wont go into the nomenclature of the various timings, mostly this should do, for the first 4 items of Ram timing, set them to 5-5-5-15. And under Voltages, check for something vdimm or something similar, and set it to 2.1V or 2.0V.

When one is using 2 ram sticks of different mfgr's or types, it is always better to use ram with more relaxed timings first to set the memory timings in cmos. because along with the 4 main latency settings(CL,tRCD,tRP,tRAS) there are many sub timings too (tRC, tRFCc etc..) and which generally everybody leaves it on AUTO.

if any of these timings are too tight for a given ram then the pc will not boot or boot with unpredictable results meaning crashes or BSOD on OS. it does not imply that the OP will face problem if he uses the ocz first but using the gskill will lower the probability of any problems down the line due to the implied tighter memory sub timings of the OCZ.
also it is always a safe practice to clear the cmos on changing rams or cpu. not mandatory but always better.
btw: there is nothing as CAS timings, CAS (Column Access Strobe) is one of the memory timing parameters.
and to the OP , kindly note you will have to do this procedure of setting timings manually every time you have to clear cmos. better option would be to sell these seperately and buy a matched pair set. for uninterrupted pc usage pleasure.
