You know what it looks soooo similar to the 8800GT ....ditto actually.....uses the same G92 core ...half the no.of shaders.....same amount of memory.....same mem interface....is it just a rebadged 880GT with half the shaders locked ?

LOL it is nt ! How else do u expect that its giving almost 10% within the 8800GT perf with 43% less shaders ! They have tweaked the shaders a lot upto the xtent of 15-20%. Look out for the crysis perf ! Btw Plz go through the 29 page review & u will surely be delighted ! At 50-70$ less than 8800GT this is rocking :P

What to do with DX 10.1 :P

By the time DX 10.1 games r mainstream u u will HD 4000 series & G100 or even more :P....so dnt post BS

64 SP's and 32 Texture Unit's .. compared to 112 SP's and 56 Texture Unit's on the 8800GT .. the 9600GT is G94 based .. everything else looks the same ..

Incase u didn't know , dx9.0c doesn't support an unified shader model :P .. so i don't think the extra shaders wouldn't make a tremendous impact on performance .. it'd be more on the raw processing power of the card ...

And btw , Hilbert still uses the Crysis demo for testing .. i think the full game + patch v1.1 + latest driver shows a greater scalability across diff. hardware

Plus here the prices should be over 9.5k's if i'm not mistaken :P .. in that case the 8800GT will still be a better vfm product .. at around 8k's , the 9600GT will rule :D ...

LOL DX 9.0c doen't support unified shaders....well DX 9.0c is more of oblivious to unified shader model as it has to do more with pixel/vertex shaders. Its not extra shaders but more power per shader model + each unified shader can work wither as a vertex/pixel shader. Other wise DX 10 based unified shader models wouldn't have been compatible with Dx 9.0c

U didn't get my point .. lets put it this way .. under dx9.0c , what would u prefer .. 96 SP's @ 1400 MHz or 64 SP's @ 1700 MHz ??? I think the 9600GT's already outperforms the 8800GTS 320MB/640MB because of a similar reason .. Under a true dx10 only environment , i donno what will happen .. but for dx9.0c , i can surely say that SP's clocks matter more than the number ..

I don't think games written under dx9.0c (limitation of dx9.0c and not the game) can dynamically balance between the workload (pixel/vertex processing) even though the card features the unified shader processors ... coz most dx9.0c cards feature a constant number of pixel/vertex shaders ... And though the Unified Shader Architecture makes rendering more efficient , dx9.0c simply can't allocate resources on the fly and dynamically load-balance ..

hope i could make myself clear ...

We are yet to see a true dx10 only game/tech demo .. maybe with something like that the comparison would be easier ... lets wait for 3Dmark Vantage shall we ..

half the shader processors than the 8800gt !!

on a long run 8800gt seems to be a better choice ryt !
now that all the games are shader hungry!

Are there any comparisons with 8800 GS , which of the two is a better buy ?

im guessing it mus be on par with the 8800GT 256 but faster than the 8800GS
and considering that the 8800GS costs aroun 160$ i guess the 9600gt is a better buy

so, basically, the 8800GT is still a better buy?

Only if the 9600GT is priced around 10k's .. if the 9600Gt is priced around 8k's , then it definitely offers better vfm ..

And about oc'ing , the 8800GT does oc well enough , and quite comparable to 9600GT speeds anyday .. infact the evga clocks for the 9600GT i.e. 740/1850/1950 is not quite hard to achieve on the 8800GT .. and in such a case , the extra SP's will definitely make the 8800GT a better buy ... ..

All comes down to pricing i guess ...

yup 8800gt looks better...or its better to go for ati hd 3870 with price cut.....what does 9800gt has to offer thats the big think that will decide...but as one of the thread it doesnt look any gem to wait for

U didn't get my point

Let me know what u r getting between the diff of shaders of G92 & G94.

Is it like 1 SP of G92 @ 1700 Mhz = 1 SP of G94 @ 1700 Mhz....if u think its equal u r wrong :P

Also 1 more question why do u think thse G92/G94 being based on DX10 unified shader model ...still have better performance in DX 9.0c apps :P

for even 200$ ( or say Indian price 10k) the 9600GT will be a better VFM than 8800GT ( avg Indian price 13k)

As the perf diff is 10% avg but priff diff is coming to 30%

Nope ,, its like 64 SP of G94 @ 1700 MHz < 112/128 SP of G92 @ 1700 MHz and both > 96 SP of G80 @ 1400 MHz :P .. particularly under dx9.0c ..

Also 1 more question why do u think thse G92/G94 being based on DX10 unified shader model ...still have better performance in DX 9.0c apps

Is this really a question to ask ?? eeh ?? Did shader alone multiply the performance ?? Then going from 24 ps + 8 vs to 96 SP (say 3*24 ps + 3*8 vs) unified should actually give u 3 times the performance wouldn't it ?? I don't see the 8800GTS 320 MB/640 MB scoring 3 times in 3DMark , or any other game for that instance , compared to a 7900GTX !!!

Its about Core Clock , Mem. Clocks , ROP's , Texture Units , independent Shader Processing Units , Mem. Interface , No. of SP's etc. etc. ... combine all that and u get just over 2 times the performance compared between a standard 7900GTX and a 8800GTS (suppose) ... and the two cards are generations apart :P ..

Is it really hard to accept that dx9.0c can't properly utilize all the features offered by current gen. of dx10 cards (unified shader architecture , geometry shaders etc. etc.) ?? The performance charts are still based upon games which are dx9.0c based , and extended to dx10 (the other way round is not possible if i'm not mistaken) ...
