Ummmm....TATA is recognized brand and signifies trust. So if a site uses tata it would appear that they are in some way related/affiliated/endorsed by TATA group. I feel TATA was justified. As for winning in High Court ... doubt that. For one, the Courts have shown an inclination to protect trade names..for another, TATA will unleash a battery of top lawyers and ... ... hehe

"ok tata bye bye" is not something remotely related to TATA brandname(except for being painted on rear of every truck out there). That way Ashok Leyland can lay claim too, they too got some trucks with that. It was a ridiculous decision.

exactly ... tata byebye is such a common slang , you cannot say the company has the same name .... what next the Apple guys taking over the fruit?

At the outset, apologies for digging up an old topic. However, I came across a rather interesting list which I thought should be shared in this thread. It's a list of cases decided in favor of TATA, barring the use of that name. As you'd see, they are rather aggressive about their trade name.

Isn't domain name dispute cases handled by ICANN ? Are they giving you any compensation ?

Ya but here in this case TATA has trademark registration for the exact name of the domain and I won't get any compensation other than out of pocket expenses like domain registration costs etc I think.
