Old phone as media server

If you just want to reuse it, you could use it as a dashcam for your car (if you have a one). I don't think it's worth going through all the hassle to set it up, and even if you set it up, you are technically limited. Better to use an old laptop or PC for this. Old ones work very well if you run Linux on it.

In general, any PC has a significant lifespan if you find alternate uses for it as against the mobile devices which are largely disposable. I still use my Dell Venue tablet from 2014 as a home dashboard with over half a dozen servers running in the background. The screen is slowly starting to deteriorate, but I cannot imagine getting so much use out of a mobile device.
 
Just trying to play around what can be done with these old devices, these SOC's can handle these simple tasks like a media server but software support seems not that great, there's no much straight forward solution
