Oneplus one dilemma

My friend wants to buy Oneplus one.So he has some questions:

As we know that in India the phone is going to launch with CM but after a period of time of it will not get updates for CM as OPO is working on its own UI.So can I expect its UI to be near to stock android?
And even if it doesn't get the updates, can we flash global version of CM and get updates? Will rooting void the warranty in India? Will support of CM will end on global version of phone by 2015?

What about the warranty in India?

If he source the international model of OPO,will he get warranty and updates for CM in India?

Thanks

AFAIK OPO was working on a CM like rom for the OnePlusTwo, they will now port this to OnePlusOne most probably leading to all sorts of bugs

And even if it doesn't get the updates, can we flash global version of CM and get updates?
If CM has exclusive deal with MMX they might have a way of blocking flashing CM on other devices based on device ip, imei etc, so flashing may be ruled but modders might find a way around this issue, chances are 50-50

Will rooting void the warranty in India?
According to OPO forums right now rooting does not void warranty

Will support of CM will end on global version of phone by 2015?
Yes

warranty will be available in India, but details will only be available on 2nd Dec (if they dont have facilities here they might send the phone back to china for repair, this isnt final but might just happen)

If he source the international model of OPO,will he get warranty and updates for CM in India?
Yes, at least till Dec 2015

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.According to OPO,their phone is going to launch with CM.But in Dec they are going to release the beta version of their own ROM and stable version will be out in 2015.And as it was earlier with OPO that it had lot of bugs but later on it improved.Do you have any info on warranty?Like how can I avail the warranty if something goes wrong?and what about after warranty?how can I repair my device after the warranty expires?

Am using the OPO since august.. its a beast.. CM wil support the device for 2 yrs straight. I believe OPO are gonna ship the One Plus Two with their won home grown ROM. not the OPO.

Do you have any idea about the warranty?will i have to send the phone to China for repairing?

OPO had announced 20 service centers for India, but those were pulled down from their website in a couple of days.

More details would be available on the Dec 2nd launch.

As of now there are no details regarding service centers and what kind of repairs they can carry out in india(eg: can screen be replaced in india or will they send it to china?)

My advice would be to wait for atleast 2-3 months if warranty and service centers are important, who knows the OPO might even get a price reduction if initial demand is not much lol

Dont worry ab

why worry about repairing. There will be service centres in India once it is launched on 2nd. Dunno how the 1+1 homegrown ROM would be... Mine is a global version , so i would be getting Cyanogenmod for the next yr as well.

U get the updates irrespective of where you are using the phone.. Plus now even the Indian models are getting cm support.

Yeah now they do since CM announced it. But earlier when it was announced that Indian users would be blocked, I read somewhere that region detection is how they would stop pushing updates. So phones in India or with an Indian number would have been affected.

If u use a global version in India, u would have still got the update irrespective of whether cm decided to provide support in India.

Has happened with all phones purchased in the US, I get the updates when they get it.

I think they recognise via IMEI.

^Not via IMEI.... most of the manufacturers have region wise code in the ROM... So you can install particular region rom and get OTA for that regions...
