So here I was, returning after Valentine day's dinner at ~11:45

PM last night....My car's fuel warning light had come on during the morning

office drive but since it usually runs over 40 Kms in reserve after

the E warnign light, I neglected the warning thinking I'd get

the tank filled next morning....

So I am on Sardar Patel road (the road in front of IIT M) and suddenly the car

starts losing power...To my horror, I realize I have run out of

fuel.....

The engine died off while I was pullig to the side, and I don't know

if it has ever happened to any of you but if the power dies, you

substantially lose your braking and steering capabilities....Anyway,

somehow managed to get the car by the side...

Switching on the hazard lights, I came out of the car and tried

flagging down any autos to go to the nearest petrol bunk but there are

none to be seen....

I try to placate my companion, telling her we''ll figure out some way

when I suddenly notice a scooter having stopped by the side.....

It was a guy in his late 20s who had stopped over seeing the hazard

blinkers.....Imagine my surprise when he offers to drive over to the nearest petrol bunk and get a jerrycan filled with Petrol...

I thanked him profusely, and insisted that I'd come along, and this good samaritan not only drove me over to the nearest petrol pump, drove me back from there to the car, and waited till I managed to pour out the fuel and start the vehicle.....

By this time it was around 1:00 AM

Well, All I could do was thank him profusely, and make a mental resolve to pass this favor on whenever I get a chance....

On a side note, the titile of this post says so because having lived pretty much all over the country, I doubt if this would have happened in any other of the big cities but Chennai!

For all its flaws, there are times, when you can't help but like this place :)

FYI, Chennai is known for its hospitality...

Even in cricket..

Remember the Ind Vs Pak match in Chepauk long time back, when Pak won, the whole of Chennai crowd applauded them for their glorious strokes and their deserving victory..

The Pak team even made a victory lap I guess..

I only hope other cities take a cue from Chennai!

I'm not really surprised about this happening in Chennai - I've had similar experiences. Hyderabad is another city with very hospitable people, but since I was there for a short period I can't relate to any particular incident - however, traveling by autorickshaws even at 2-3am was always safe.

yea people at chennai seemed better than people in coimbatore, Cant believe 500 Kms makes such a a difference :|
