Do you know if the Onn V2 have any issue getting bricked while getting setup from non-US regions? Should we use a VPN for setup? I know the older versions were fine, but i read some threads where this was discussed about the new versions. Can you confirm please?

what i know is i have v1 on lineage and kept a spare v2 for me in case ,the second is v2 activated in december twice ,second time was for android tv 12 update ,after i reset and i rooted it and it is now spare ,had no problem both times went very smooth
rooted for dolby atmos and tivimate premium mod from luckypatcher
Please note both Onn. boxes are now on hold scheduled for pick up and a delivery in mumbai ...thank you

i run 4 boxes, auto updates are smooth.
just the us apps dont play, obviously.

Onn TV box now requires US VPN for first time activation. I got one last month and activated it around 15th of December (can't recall the exact date). It auto updates as the first step, there is no way to skip that part. This new update is what introduced the region lock. Then it detects India region and stops the activation process. The only option after that is to reset the device.

Since it doesn't go to the home screen at all, you can't install a VPN app on the device itself. You'll need a device with which you can bridge the VPN connection over shared wifi hotspot (windows PC or rooted Android Phone, not sure about Linux). Other issue is that most free VPNs don't allow region selection. I got lucky on my fourth try with Proton where it selected US automatically. So there's a high chance that you'll remain stuck for a while unless you have a paid VPN plan.
