I upgraded my rig a month ago. I have installed XP SP2, Vista Ultimate SP1 and openSUSE 11.1. The on board graphic was HD3300(790G). I installed the drivers from AMD. Now, 2 weeks back I got a 4770. I uninstalled the previous drivers from Windows before plugging the card. But I didn't do the same in SUSE as I noticed that there is same driver for HD3300 and 4770 for linux 32. Now whenever I try to boot SUSE, it takes me to the console. It displays the message "GdmLocalDisplayFactory : Maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors." I manually uninstalled the driver from usr/share/ati and yet the GUI is not loading. Am I making a simple mistake ? :S

P.S. - The driver version was 9.6

got it right. just typed sax2 in su mode and I had to just reconfigure. :) Thanks guys. But I don't understand as I installed the same driver which was installed before and its working fine. The latest drivers from ATI are same for all graphic cards. :S

Well I think it should be automatically reinstalled/compiled each time there is a kernel update. Be careful with kernel updates too.

^^This is known as a poorly configured Xorg and driver integration :P
