i've been using Opera for the past few days now since Firefox started getting really sluggish.. hogged way too much memory even making my computer unusable at times. could someone please tell me how to do these things in Opera?
1. ctrl+k, ctrl+l would put the cursor in the google bar and address bar respectively in firefox... can i do the same in opera?
2. typing something in the address bar and hitting enter would give you the 'I'm feeling lucky' hit of google. i found this very useful when i wanted to wiki something.. i just had to type 'wiki whatiwant' and it used to take me to the wiki page.. can i do that in opera as well?
To add Google I am feeling Lucky :
Tools --> Pref.Under the search Tab click the button New.
Enter Url as http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=iso-8859-1&q=%s&sourceid=opera&btnI=Iï·27m+Feeling+Lucky
In name and shortcut assign watever you want (but do give them a value).
Now you can search google I am feeling lucky by either selecting it from the search tab or by typing
the shortcut <space> query
in the address bar.
As far as your first question is concerned I have no idea.Opera allows configurable shortcuts so it may be possible though.
thanks saumil and Indyan.. ctrl + b didn't open the shortcuts list though. i'm on opera 9 beta or whatever it is. however i must say i'm almost convinced about a switch here.. firefox just doesn't cut it anymore.
Opera automatically blocks unwanted popups.there is an extention for opera AFAIK but IMO not worth trying. For me the inbuilt one works fine.
To search in google,go to the address bar and type 'g' followed by the quiery.for example to search for techenclave, type "g techenclave" or "g tech enclave" in the addressbar.
Opera 9 has adblock built-in! Right click on the website and select "Block Content" and then click on all the ads you want blocked. Then click "Done" on the top and your are all clear to go.
As Raghunandan said in v9 TP2 you can block ads. Also get one of those filters available in the net with a list of blocked ads etc.
If you are using an older version then use http://www.operaadfilter.com/
Darthcoder what else do you want?
Allthough opera doesnt have extensions many functions like that of BBcode extension or bugmenot can be modded into it.It has a few mods like Osync(bookmarks synscronisation) also available.
