Opera - Random spikes in CPU usage

I am using Opera 9.26 and every 5-6 minutes I get a spike in CPU usage to 100%. This causes a complete freeze in all activity (scrolling, etc.) for around 100ms and is very irritating.

I figured it could be a RAM or HDD issue, but this only happens while using Opera. No other application causes such spikes. Firefox with 20 open tabs hasn't hitched even once.

Any ideas?

Most probably it is the history search. Go to your profile folder here

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera xxx\profile\
and delete the 'VPS' folder (while opera is not running)

then see if you have multiple versions of adobe flash installed.

There was no VPS folder but purging the cache and history seems to have fixed it.
I'll let it fill back up to my allowed 200mb limit and see if the spikes return.

Hmm...to make the instant farward/backward work....what else? If you have net access, and most of us visit sites with dynamic content anyway and by the time we re-open the browser, the content would be updated anyway and a simple reload of the page should do it.

Nah, it's not the content or Flash. I always do my surfing with plugins disabled (F12 menu ftw).

It was pretty much happening consistently every 5-6 minutes even with simple forum pages.
Actually forums are what made me notice it in the first place since those are the only places that require a lot of scrolling, and 10ms freezes while scrolling can hit you in the face like a slap.

If nothing works, make backups of bookmarks and profiles. Uninstall Opera and delete \Documents and Settings\_____\Application Data\Opera. Reinstall. Look if that issue is still there. If not, restore settings :P
