Forerunner
Well another new year brings another round(s) of upgrading.:hap2:

CPU: Opteron 144
Stepping: CABYE 0536
MotherBoard: Foxconn Winfast NF4XK8MC
Memory: OCZ Enhanced latency 2x256 (CH-5)
Gfx Card: XFX 6600 , 128mb, pci-e
Cooling: Stock Amd Cooler

NB: I have "burrowed" this foxconn m/b and gfx card from a friend till i get better stuff more suitable for o/c. The m/b (mATX format) currently does not have bios settings to change the voltages (Vcore and Vdimm) hence o/c capability is rather limited since it does support raising the cpu fsb to 250 mhz and has plenty of ram divider settings.

Must say the built quality is Good and stability is very good.A very good and cheap m/b for those who do not o/c much and / or for HTPC use.

ps: using the stock cooler of my sempron 2500+ on this.

basically testing out the m/b. i am glad that it recognised the opty cpu.
i had just slapped down the h/s from my sempron cpu over this soc 939 opty (without cleaning or applying AS5 etc....) hence the temps reported are around 52C (could be a misreporting issue). it is the reason i do not want to try higher settings.
will fix TT big typhoon and Geil rams later on........

but first trying to figure out 2T memory issue first with this cheap m/b (price < Rs.3.2K for this soc 939, NF4-4X m/b.)......

Well Deejay, since you have a pretty good stepping I think you should be able to touch 2~2.1Ghz on stock volts ? And with some Geil, I don't think you would have problems taking it 1:1 :)

Recognising the Opty is an achievement by itself..;)

However I would prefer the ASRock 939Dual SATA-2 over the Foxconn anyday, that board has an amazing feature set, along with rock-solid overclocking capabilities !

Well i am not recomending this board for extreme overclocking here on this site....
but as stated above i have borrowed this m/b and might get it @ about 1/2 (Repeat HALF) the price of ASRock 939 Dual Sata-2.

so looking at its value for money and as a backup / HTPC m/c this is really a good stable m/b.

ps: foxconn make (OEM) m/b's for INTEL. so the components used are made for great stability.

Here is the max that i can go on this m/b since the max cpu fsb in the bios is 250mhz.
Memory: Geil One @250mhz 1:1 @2.5-3-3-7 , 2T
Cooling: Stock Amd Cooler(Sempron)

@ Sir Deejay - 2250 on stock volts is amazing ! Could you also post what temperatures you are getting. Also is that OC Prime stable ? (for the m/b test)

Kindly do not abuse me by using such words as "Sir" and all that crap ....:ohyeah:, that title should be reserved or is more appropiate for guys whose articles and pics are published in "Well Reputed" magazines.:hap2:

There was no substantial rise in the cpu temps.as mentioned previously the temps are being misreported....sometimes it is 45C , then 54C , etc....i.e. it keeps fluctuating. but the good old wet finger test did not reveal any rise in temps, infact the h/s is "lukewarm" on touching.

I have not loaded prime95 on this m/c yet. infact i would prefer to use prime only after i have installed a better cooler over this cpu. but it does repeated 3d mark2001 and 05 tests without any issues whatsoever @ 250 mhz.

anyways i am very pessimistic whether it will even run prime95 @ 250 at default 1.4V vcore. perhaps at 1.45 ~ 1.5V vcore ............;) :)

@Switch,
Good initial effort. but i am sure you can / will go atleast 30mhz htt (300 mhz) soon.:hap2: :ohyeah:

Well i am on it now...

Played NFS MW for a while... Like 30 odd minutes... You wont beleive my temps...

I aint stopping abhi...

I have an opteron 146 CAB2E 0545 FPMW. The maximum stable speed I can get out of it is about 2750 Mhz at 1.5 v using the arctic cooling freezer 64 pro. I keep it at 2.7 GHz with 1.44 v for 24/7 usage. It is benchmark stable at upto 2.88 GHz, and I can run super pi 1 M at 3 GHz.

Do you guys test for stability with prime 95?

Kitt, All TE members usually have systems tested for both prime95 & memtest ;)

nice o/c there mate, feel free to post your screenies here & welcome to opty club.

@Switch, at last you crossed over :) can we also be privy to your temp's ?

its time for prime & memtest to take over, kitt also has got near identical o/c.

No not stable... I just took a screenshot... Then i shut down the system... As i said... Need better Ram... Also the stepping does stable at 2.7... Its a CAB2E 0542EPMW... Not known for great overclocks... Ohhh btw... I am on stock cooler so definately on AIR...

CAB2E 0545 CPMW here. Struggling to get it past 2.75 GHz prime stable, however I can game and benchmark at 2.88 GHz.
