Expect some heavy duty with so much. About 2000 Bux.

I was charged 600 Bux on my 2GB OCZ Platinum, which was valued 30 Euro w/ Shipping.

I got my order from MemC on 3 days flat.

I want to order 2 GB DDR2 G.Skill HZ 800 Mhz Kit from MC. Is it possible to pay by debit card?

Also, if I ask them to value at 40 Euro, and not included invoice, how much custom can I be charged?

you can...but make sure to get it by DHL express if you want it fast...for 40Euro customs duty wud be 14 euros ( 35%) roughly arnd Rs. 770...but if they get can be convinced that its a gift item they may just let it pass without any duty.

You have to make it believable, so go with $100 instead - still no guarantee though. Indian customs is becoming smarter, pretty soon they will start looking up prices on the web for assessing duty :P

maybe then we have to ask gary to make a fake site with fake prices lol

^^LOL, customs guys don't care about cooling accessories... I'm talking about components like processor, board, video/sound cards.

Say if your shipment does get held back by Mumbai customs (if the item has been shipped by the national courier and supposed to be picked up by some local courier here), where do we go looking for the item?
Im sure no queries would be entertained on the phone! Is there some definate address in Mumbai where we can enquire about our item?

Whatever you do, dont use EMS. Lol.

Damn buggers, 1 of My packages reached India last Thursday, and one reached Monday.

Havent got any till now, Infact they still have to screen the first package. Lol. Been calling them like 10 times a day. They keep saying itll be screened today :@.

I wish DHL/UPS/FedEx had a cheaper option -.-....

Lol, This sucks.

I just kept inquiring, and finally got a reply, saying I have to bring the Invoice, to the Speedpost Centre (near the Domestic Airport, about 1 hour away from my place :@) and get my Packages cleared from Customs.

Zzz....

Hey dude,

Yea u gotta go to dat speedpost centre...its behind centaur...domestic airport. You will havta get ur invoice n IC code.

If u don hav dat stuff.....then do wut i did......wen u reach there.....ask for a guy named "dasu shetty". You will havta pay him some "....":ohyeah: . Give him ur package number.....it will b sometin like EB-....(numbers)...US.
He will inquire abt ur stuff with the custom officers there n let u knw how much u havta pay. In my case, my stuff was worth 220$$ frm petra's tech shop. But the petra's guy mentioned it as 75$$.(on my request).

So i had to pay 1500 bucks to shetty. Then they will clear ur package n forward it to ur nearest speed post collection centre.....in my case Andheri(w).....u will havta collect it frm there.

M never gonna get anytin here through USPS.....unless i got no other options.

CHEERS.

Does this shetty guy has a cell no or something? Ive a parcel "valued" at 50$, by USPS. And the online tracker shows Into Foreign Customs. How much do you think I'll have to pay(including shetty;) )?

You go to dat place....behind centaur hotel, domestic airport, santacruz. Speak to dat guy. Depends on him how much hes gonna charge. But first try n speak to the guys there n check if u can get it without havin to pay anytin. Do it thru shetty only as a last option.

CHEERS.

well...

I have some story to tell...i had ordered some memory from MC on 28th May....my bad bad luck these guys @MC included the invoice in the package n didn't even devalue the same though i had specifically requested...the package landed @FPO,mumbai(ballard pier) on 1st june for which i got the intimation today some half an hour back with a note that the package has been detained by customs authorities....

i cud actually trace the item with the customs a few days back after personally visiting the FPO twice...the customs guy told me to get another invoice valued at arnd 150 euros which MC guys were kind enough to send...so finally i cud get my package after spending some 4hrs at that FPO today....

now for the damage:-2500(CD-U) + 1300(CD-O) + 500 Octroi = Rs.4300 (total damage in getting the things cleared)...

ps: CD-U -customs duty unofficial (euphemism for corruption duty)

CD-O -customs duty official (16% - categorised as some personal usage item valued at 150 Euros )

I was told the actual Duty on computer items is 35%....and nowadays they do open each n every item that lands at FPO. Can't say about couriered parcels though...they probably land at Airport Customs @santacruz....And the customs guys are becoming smart...they even search the net and find out the approx price of goods(was told by the customs guy).. So if anyone is ordering from MC ( or anyother online store abroad) keep the amount as less as possible say arnd 100-150 euros max...ask them not to include the invoice or ask them to devalue the invoice so that the value still remains reasonable and not suspicious) so even if you have to shell out 35% duty it wouldn't hurt that much....

^^^ I think u got it thru "registered post" which is the cheapest option memory C hav got .....10$$ shipping charges for RAM IMO. Well u shd hav got em thru DHL / FedEx.....u wud hav had to pay a lil more...but worth it coz there aint any delays and u don havta pay hefty duty.

I recently got a PSU n a RAM cooler frm MC...DHL.....MC sent the original invoice with the package which was arnd 150 euros......i was charged 900 bucks as duty.

This applies to everyone......ALWAYS OPT FOR WELL KNOWN COURIER COMPANIES LIKE ...DHL / FED EX / UPS.

AVOID POSTAL SERVICES.

CHEERS.

Well, My order from Petra, is marked 63$ including shipping.

I dont think the order from PC-Perf. was marked anything, only a Shipping Slip was included.

Thus I have to go with an Invoice.

Well, im printing them out now, both the PC-Perf, and Petra order Invoice, and lets see what happens.

I guess ill carry a hefty amount with me.

@ GunnerMania, whats the IC no. ?

The guy I called was telling me its some Import Export Code, or something.

How the heck do I find out what it is?

Its jsut the Tracking no. or whaT?

^^ IEC code stands for Import Export Code usually assigned by DGFT( Director General of Foreign Trade) to importers/exporters . Its not a tracking no. And you as an individual don't need one if the items you are getting are for personal use. 63$ is a petty amount. I don't think you need to worry much...maybe they'll just let it pass. Did you order via post?...then it'll only take arnd 2 weeks for the post office guys to pass the goods to customs for examination and probably by the 3rd week you'll get an intimation if the customs guys detain your goods...i don't think for such paltry amt they'll detain....even if they charge duty @full rate of 35% it'd come to only around 20$ which is not much....so rest in peace...

I guess the petra shop ur referring to is the petra's tech shop .. and what's pc-perf?
