i need help

i want to ovrclock my

quadcore q6600 intel + intel dg33fb mothrboard

i am new to ovr clockin

pleese help!!!!!!!!!!!!

dont say cant overclock.. vishalrao here is running an oc'd q6600 on an intel original mobo. i think he used some sw called setfsb i think.

ya :)

@vivek: see the SetFSB website at: SetFSB_HomePage

SLG505YC256BT (Intel DG33BU/DX39BT) might be the option you select in the dropdown of the program.

WARNING! You can render your mobo unusable if your system locks up and you cant recover it, BE WARNED!

I took a risk by playing with my settings (Intel DP35DP mobo) just tried a minor over-clock and I am back to stock settigns and dont plan on taking any more risks :ohyeah:

Yeah, but as vishalrao said - BE CAREFULL !!! You can screw up your PC since you with bios overclocking you can just reset the bios. But with this software OC you will have to reinstall Windows I guess. (Assuming you haven't destroyed some component !)

U can use Clockgen, just need to know PLL settings.

I had P4 @ 3.9GHz 24/7 on an Intel D101GGC mobo.

Why U need to OC?

yes man that is one of the impotent thing Why U need to OC? In my views it is good to get power full CPU rather then over clocking smaller.Watch your requirement and think do you really need over clocking?you are going to avoid all warranty terms by doing this and stressing your components also(they can die anytime under over clocking:cool2: .Well if your answer to over clocking is yes then why you purchased CPU not according to your requirements??Spending Extra Bucks on components(like CPU and Memory:cool2: is good idea in compare to spending on lots of 120-80mm fans,High weighted HSF and lots of other cooling solutions to over clock only.I know many people here are against me ..but truly explained what i thinks about over clocking:) I dont like that little extra juice from over clocking by shortening the life spam of components.

+1 to that , i dont think its recomended either , for 'tp' its ok , but the 'tp' can end up in a disaster.......i guess booting into safe mode can also leave the program without running :) , however on the other hand as BF1983 correctly mentioned u can do that if u havent redered a component fried...:)

to explain ur why ?? :) --- for me its fun + learning how to OC.....if something goes bust im not that kinda person to go to the shop and just get another cause its taken me a long time even to buy what i have.....however the 1st time i OC'ed was with my 2160 setup......u urself own a 2140 and u need to know that u can cause no harm taged as 'stressed' atleast on ur 2140, it can be oc'ed on stock voltages itself all by pushing the fsb of the mobo higher.....now if the mobo can support the same thats no big issue either....cause u arent feeding more 'v's' anywhere.....ofcourse it might have a 'looong' time consequence , but then for some people here who change their stuff every yr. its not a concern........last but not the least.... , Oc'ing can give u a good feeling not being left out in the 'odd' un-clockers category :) sorry for the long OT....

So well , again - try the software if u want , if u can manage on a stable setting keep it , if u wish to :)

I prefer to buy E6850 3.0GHz rather then over clock E2140 from 1.6 to 3GHz.I know its safe to over clock E2140 but again will watch my requirements in case needed i will get E6850.

note that its very risky because rebooting or reinstalling windows wont help (i believe) - i think the program sets the FSB on the motherboard chip, so if it goes "out of range" (say the ram deosnt support it) then the motherboard wont even power-up ! clearing the bios wont help and it wont even powerup to be able to re-flash your bios... changing the ram to higher grade might get it to boot, but then who knows?

i also had a reboot issue after changing my settings, it would not power up and i got a chill for a second - but powering down and up completely i managed to get into the bios to change some settings - had to downclock my ram back to 800 to get it to work...

i tried the setFSB on dg965ry and it would not boot up or simply FREEZE if the setting was incorrect or fsb was changed by large amount (>30MHZ at a time); u just cannot OC some boards i guess; get the boards which have the OC features(abit ip35e anyone?).

i think the set fsb is pretty safe, unless u set a very high fsb.

the trick is to increase the fsb by 5 mhz increments.
