The biostar still does not have the unlock for the 550 be and it should be there in future bios update. If that is the case and it looks like a lot of the current crop unlocks then u will have a cooling issue. So go for a good cooler. If you are using a CM 690/590 case with a top fan then the vendetta 2 will beat the monkey cr@p out of the sunbeam core contact freezer.

Abt your OC, look to first see what is the max you can get on your memory, then your NB and then your core. this will help you get a stable OC.

you are right. The stock HSF of 550 and its heat load is quite interesting. Anyway, I don't wish to remove mobo to install a cooler. Btw, do you have any idea about getting good cooler as SCCF,TR,CM,OCZ etc. in kolkata ?

@sabby, no, AFAIK except CM nothing is available in Cal, no demand, and even CM I'm not sure if the better coolers will be available. TBH, I've not even started looking at the local market yet, since everything is a few clicks away, or even just one call.

Exactly, Vendetta 2 positioning is its biggest problem. The SCCF on the other hand, can take in direct cool air through the front intake and blow it out through the exhaust fan, hence better cooling. And ya, SCCF is huge...

Is it stable ? Try doing 260.. Even my Phenom X3 and Jetway HA07 can do 265.

260 X 16.5 should be much better

Try to unlock all 4 cores
I have done it.
AMD Phenom II X3 720BE + Biostar Ta790gx 128mb = unlock 4th Core
It's a sucess and Now OC with my Watercooling kit...WOO is stable and working fine.... and temp is 36C ideal and 42C on full load.

Unlock is only possible on Biostar Ta790gx 128mb mobo will old BIOS.
AMD along with mobo manfactures had dissabled the feature of Unlocking in 790gx boards. So no unlocking in latest BIOS

Unlocking is possible with BIOS file "78DEA113.BST" only.
