P2P noob here...trying to understand a few things....

1,i have a 500kbps connection and i get about average 50kbps d/w speeds on public trackers, how much speeds can i expect on private trackers??

2,i will have to seed till i get the ratio??right?? how do they track??

3,what is a seedbox??

Hi ,

1. For a 512 kbps connection you get around 60 as download speed for you are getting decent downloads .

2. Seeding depends on the kind of tracker you are in. Some want a 1:1 or more ratio some want seeding hours . It depends on the private tracker.

3. Seedbox is a high speed virtual place where you download torrents at high speeds and upload a lot. Used to create a buffer in websites.

if i use a private tracker i will get 60 instead of 50??

additional 10kbs is not worth the seeding and ratio hassle....

i guess private trackers are not for me

Private trackers are for those who are interested in elite stuff. Not available easily off the net.
:p
Depends on the taste of the content you download.
As for your connection is not ideal for private trackers.
Think of getting Atleast 2mbps broadband for p2p.

There are no minimum requirements for getting in private networks .

People will low connections will also do well if they know the correct way's.

Wrong .

You can rip benefits of PT with less speed also . Content is one of the big advantages of PT along with speed.

The limiting factor for any P2P DL is the speed which your ISP is providing. With the type(s) of throughput your line will create it will hardly matter if you use a public tracker or a private tracker as long as seeds are the same. You start to see differentials in speeds when you are on lines greater than or equal to 1Mbps. The true benefit is 'availability' of content. Many times you might not find stuff on public trackers, but private trackers usually throw up a productive search with decent seeders. Also on private trackers you are usually guaranteed clean content which has been verified. Also before the tracker DL you can read about format/size/source/subtitles/screen shots/various other helpful comments. Most of the times video content have a sample as a part of the DL package which is nice. :)

Ratio..? Depends on which type of tracker you are on. Some are ratio free, and some mandate it. If it requires a ratio you ideally need 1:1 and below 0.3-0.2 gets you auto-banned. Seeding is advisable -- even if on ratio free, only way to give back to the community, unless you want to make a $$ donation.

Suggestion:
Since you have a low BW line, not many people will want to give you an invite to a private tracker. Do not take this in a negative way, but it takes immense patience and 'hard work' to get a decent ratio. Keep a view in the P2P sections and people post when private trackers are up for sign-up. THEN, you should create an ID, and we can help you get a ratio. It is fun. As a personal example, I had started my first private tracker in a similar fashion. Someone told me about open sign-ups. I started to use it, and got a decent ratio. Using screen shots of that, I managed to get into a couple more decent one. Just a matter of time and patience. Try it.

Best & seed back. :)

Demonoid being a semi private tracker has biggest collection in terms of content , so no PT do not have biggest and unique content though it varies from what actually you are looking for.

well i guess since u have not a gr8 connection, ur 1st priority if u are in mumbai or delhi get mtnl connection, they have good plans like the dsl unlimited 1333 which gives u 1mbps down and 512k up at day and 2mbps down and 512k up at night and 2mbpd down and 512k down on sundays.

secondly, the idea of private tracker is unique content and sharing it in a close community by following a set of rules which are common for 99% of all sites. Seeding is the key to private trackers. Most trackers have seeding rules which state about a time limit or to a ratio of 1:1

Thirdly, seedboxes, these as pointed above are virtual places on the net which u can buy for a price which give u high unimaginable bandwidth with which u can download stuff and seed it back to a particular tracker.

The best in my opinion for you to start is demonoid. Learn how things work, seed there for a bit and then we shall help u get on other trackers.

For a P2P newbie i will recommend just two trackers
1)Demonoid(anyone will invite you here)
2)Rutracker(its open signup everyday)

don't go for the hassle of private trackers now
as long as you get what you want between these two trackers you shouldn't have to worry about the more 1337 ones :)

i had previously signed up to "tv torrents ro"

and i am not planning to upgrade my plan...

i just wanted to know if private trackers are any good than public for my plan...

and i found my answer!

bye bye p2p section:tongue:

Well you can camp all the time for that but until one has 10mbps plus broadband the overall costs to have a seedbox and an isp also the power costs i really dont think using so many resources is really worth the effort.
Just my opinion though.
One can Find nowa days different filehosts like wupload, fileserve, filesonic which provides single link content the file size can range from some hundred mb to tens of gb.
You can use your internet in much better ways like this and release the bandwidth load on our isps when not required.
This is purely my opinion and i know others will definitely have opinions which wont agree by my thoughts.

HTTP sucks since it has major broken downloads, no reliability whether the content is same what you want, Max no of Trojans.

P2p is better due to its advanced hash check never a download is broken even if it is it can be recovered easily.Since pt trackers has strict rules so you will hardly find anything which has Trojans or useless content.

In regards to power consumption I have router flashed with DD wrt runs 24x7 consumes 4w which is unbeatable.

In terms of seedbox we get it only once in 1 year or 2 and it can boost your ratio for.next years which when compared to.premimum filehosting services charge more than that.

That is dependent on the sources you rely for downloads.
If you download through http using some dedicated forums the problem of trojans is nullified.
Be a vip member at that forum and you have access to files noone has.
You can request to host a file on their servers and they provide you an exclusive link within hours of request.
This nullifies the problem of broken downloads.
Regarding speed i have earlier given instances of how awesome http download speeds are and i dont intend to show off my internet download speeds.
In all the advantages of private trackers can be equally matched by http sources.

Sometimes it is easier to find old content on Filehosts rather than Torernts , speed is the same throughout for filehosts but old torrents = less seeds = low speed [ Yes even private trackers have limitations , it took me 4 months to download a 38 GB torrent ] , 20kbps average , on SCC , the same would have taken a few days with any premium ]

But mostly , P2p better than filehosts

Having Premium Membership is almost a necessity for downloading from Filehosts , not the case for Private or Public Trackers

Seedbox is NOT a necessity , utilise FREELEECH , many private trackers are also Ratio Free just seed [ BTN ]

You should definitely keep using Public trackers , it really isn;t that bad , provided you are aware of what is proper content and what is fake.

P.S. - This , coming from a full fledged filehosts user . I use RealDebrid it is a link generator for multiple filehosts , good but it costs money :( Would have preferred public torrents even if i had the choice :(
