Really ?

DAWN: Plan for more taxes, fewer subsidies in federal budget

OP's article is in Pak ruppees, does not state how much of an increase it is on the present one nor does it say what % defence makes up out of the total pie.

This TOI has little more.

No, there is no surprise as they have a bigger problem than naxals to deal with currently.

It's between 5 to 5.5 Billion USD

what is $5.5Bn ? The defense budget so then this is a 25% increase.

But we don't know what their total budget is yet.

Dear Bangalore Plane crash community guy,

this is a wake-up call, what is most important thing for you to know is that this budget is more than ours.

whether it's the Americanese or Chinese helping them, that's another matter but this is high time to do something rather than feeling proud with a data on paper.

More than ours ?

No, its not more than ours, what it is more by is as a percentage of GDP or the budget. Paks have also spent more than us (in this way) for a long time now.

So this news is more of shock for Paks as they'll be paying higher taxes and having fewer subsidies.

Like what ? We're still buying toys as usual.

I don't see any urgency required on our part at all.

The expenditure on Defence comes under Non Plan expenditure. As per the Budget Estimates for the year 2010-11, Defence has been allocated Rs. 1,47,344 crore.

i.e. a marginal increase of 3.98 percent over the Budget Estimates of 2009-10.

Whats your point here?
I dont care if they hike it by 100%, all I care is about how much its defense budget actually is.

Maybe if India actually reduces its defense expenditure then the Pakis will think that we are so confident that they stand no chance and surrender even before thinking of starting a war.
