They may call it the "Land of the Pure," but Pakistan turns out to be anything but.

The Muslim country, which has banned content on at least 17 websites to block offensive and blasphemous material, is the world's leader in online searches for pornographic material, FoxNews.com has learned.

“You won’t find strip clubs in Islamic countries. Most Islamic countries have certain dress codes,†said Gabriel Said Reynolds, professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Notre Dame. “It would be an irony if they haven’t shown the same vigilance to pornography.â€

So here's the irony: Google ranks Pakistan No. 1 in the world in searches for pornographic terms, outranking every other country in the world in searches per person for certain sex-related content.

Pakistan is top dog in searches per-person for "horse sex" since 2004, "donkey sex" since 2007, "rape pictures" between 2004 and 2009, "rape sex" since 2004, "child sex" between 2004 and 2007 and since 2009, "animal sex" since 2004 and "dog sex" since 2005, according to Google Trends and Google Insights, features of Google that generate data based on popular search terms.

The country also is tops -- or has been No. 1 -- in searches for "sex," "camel sex," "rape video," "child sex video" and some other searches that can't be printed here.

Sorry if this is inappropriate. No offense meant.

If I remember correctly, India is not far behind in those lists. :/
Well considering Pakistanis used to be Indians barely 60 year back, That wouldn't be too surprising now does it?

that is because we dont confuse humans with camels :P
people tend to adapt with whatever that is available in their habitat.. :P

camel, goat, dog etc etc :P

dont you remember the news about a b**ch(female dog) being raped by a man? and then she stopped eating anything for days.. it was portrayed as 'protest by her' all over the media

it surely made it to TE atleast.

and its right, more the society suppresses sex, more the people tend to look out for it. well it's applicable not just to sex.. even booze and gutka..

we always like to explore what is forbidden and that is applicable to most living beings including the humans in india. the article would most probably be overhyped.

Quite right, we just behind them at second place :D

give yourselves all a pat on the back

I actually found the article biased towards "muslim countries". Why are the words "muslim country" stressed upon along with Islam. What has religion got to do with a countries population indulging in a specific genre of web search. I never see article about European countries -- The Christian Catholic country /nation.

^ Probably used in the wrong way, but it shows what repression can do. To be honest, I'm not surprised with the results. Even China is somewhere near the top I think.

Because the Western (European) culture is a lot more open, so they don't need internet porn as much as Indians and Pakis and others in strict/conservative cultures do?

Hehehe...off topic but wasn't there a game involving "Takistan" :P

Besides, Government of India was ranking number 3 in requesting Google to remove content [http://www.google.com/governmentrequests]. They don't specify what the content was, though.

I know people may jump for sources, but a confirmed source (as they call in newspapers) from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting told me they had instructions not to touch porn sites, the models of e-commerce!

Could be. It was not about the porn content view spectrum I was talking about. It was related to using the religious connotations in the article.
