Any thoughts on this board?

Looking mobos priced at 4-5k. Think crossfire/sli 4 months down the lane.

The Abit ip35-e is/was perfect, but everyone recommending against it since the company is dying. help!! I can't freakin decide the mobo, everything else is decided. And this is the only thing making me waste time, not buying.

Oh yeah, planning to OC quite a bit. Enough to not bottleneck a hd4850. 3.6ghz+ (should be easy with e7400 right?)

Please help me decide this guys! Beers on me next meet. :P

(j/k)

Rest of the config goes as follows:

E7400 - 6050/-

HD4850(or equivalent nvidia) - 8600/-

PiBlack 800 2x2gb - 3400/-

VX550 - 5950/-

All prices courtesy, Meenal@Prime ABGB. I like prime. Quick response, they seem very interested in making a sale just like KMD. Unlike most dealers I've come across.

Hey,

Crossfire on P35 board is not very good. The first PCI Express slot will run at 16X but, the second PCI Express slot will be running at 4X which would bottleneck a card like HD4850 .

If you spend 2k more, you can get the Biostar TPower I45 ( @ 7k ), which support crossfire at 8X-8X ( much better than 16X- 4X ) and its also an extremely good overclocker. Some very high FSB speeds have been reported on that board.

Another board is Biostar TP45HP which costs around 6-6.5k (if available).

Other P45 crossfire mobos I could find were:

You will have to get them via KMD. But I haven't seen any good reviews about them. If you are willing to spend 8k-9k, you can get Gigabyte EP45-UD3P via KMD. It is currently the best P45 mobo in that rang and also overclocks extremely well.

EDIT:

Another thing about the Crossfire speeds. P35 has PCI Express 1.1 and P45 has PCI Express 2.0

According to:

PCIe 2.0 x8 - Review Tom's Hardware : PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Cards Tested

Eight PCI Express 2.0 lanes equal the performance of x16 PCI Express 1.1. Therefore while in crossfire, each card on a P45 will get bandwidth equal to what the first card on a P35 will get.

To sum up:

PCI Express 2.0 - x16 = 8GB/s, x8 = 4GB/s, x4 = 2GB/s

PCI Express 1.1 - x16 = 4GB/s, x8 = 2GB/s, x4 = 1GB/s

So in P35 Crossfire, the two cards are in 16x-4x mode with the first card getting 4GB/s and second card getting 1 GB/s.

In P45 Crossfire, the two cards are in 8x - 8x mode in PCIe 2.0, with both cards getting 4GB/s .

In that case, you might as well get yourself a P43 board. It will have PCIe 2.0 and is supposed to be an ok overclocker. I am not sure of any concrete model no.s other than Biostar TP43-D2A7 and Asus P5QL .

I am not sure which all P43 ones are available in India.

If you can't find a P43 you might as well get the Palit P35A .
