Thankfully they didn't put call send / receive through 3 rd party, as per tradition they might have done that .

Slightly wrong there, mate... !native === paid$$ maybe... ;)

There are things called free third party apps too. :)

Although, I try to stay away from flamewars (which this thread clearly seem like good bait), I just wonder how you're exaggerating things there...

The funny part is, you're quoting Sarang's post about paid apps... while your name Linuxtechie give a prime example of free software with plethora of third-party and free apps support. :)

Just found things bit funny guys so mentioned them... not arguing and definitely not flaming. :D

If iPhone had multitasking abilities, its battery life would have been much shorter to what it is now, just like in the case of Pre

Naive.

You are totally wrong dude, LinuxTechie means (as per my definition, since that's my coined name) is: someone who is working on technologies based on FSF, GNU, Open Source and doesn't mean free software (either ways third party/free apps). I have been working on linux from the version RedHat 2.2 right from 1995-96. Its Open Source tools are the one that are my breadwinner and hence the name and like many others I never stayed back just being a free user and have contributed to many projects.

And to get your facts straights, no organization in this world strives on free software, irrespective of free / paid, they are dependent on support which never is free anyways. So next time you are getting free support, consider as "alms" given to u.

@LinusTechie: I get your point mate... I neither said that iPhone/Apple are thriving on Free Softwares, nor Linux means (absolutely, definitely) Free software. That wasn't my intention or point.

My post wast mainly intended over Sarang's equation, which sort of implies that Third Party Apps (apps developed by other people, not by original manufacturer of product) means Always Paid. I was just saying that there tons of free apps out there for iPhones, and majority are not developed by Apple.... and that too, only because I had a good chuckle over his equation and found it funny enough to post.

As for getting my facts straight about You... well, they are quite clear now as you let us know more about you and your nick.. :)... but trust me, I didn't mean to take your name literally the way you might have gotten impression of. Just that, Linux users are more aware of user contributed and free apps. Anyway, didn't mean agitate you... if that happened, then sorry mate.

Like I said earlier, I usually avoid posting in flamebait threads (Win vs. Mac, iPhone vs. Rest, ATi vs. nVidia and so on)... because most of the times, even when you post something genuinely right, informative or even funny, things are bound to get misunderstood or misinterpreted.

like it just got here. :)

One good look at the app store and you'd notice that there are nary a genuinely free app. Why would a developer who is already paying the fees for the dev-kit and app store licencing want to give away anything for free?

The apps are typicaly sharewares/trials/stripped down versions of the real thing, which s perfectly fair on the developers' part. The thing that hurts is apple denying its huge user base such a basic feature as a filesystem.

hijacking this thread a little bit... but I have to say I love my rooted Android phone. There are already at least a dozen different hacked firmware versions to play with, and apps are growing daily. I have my phone since last November and I am still not sick of my toy yet :P and it's practical too... many many useful apps.
