Linux Partitioning query

I have 2 HDDs, one has Windows Vista and other has Ubuntu 9.10. Generally, when I have to re-format my Windows, only the designated C: drive is formatted and OS is installed there. In case of Linux, I usually make 3 partitions, /boot,/ and the swap area. Whenever I upgrade to some newer version of Linux or different type of distro, I usually remove all Linux partitions and start fresh.
I want to follow the same scheme as Windows so what should be my ideal partitioning scheme? :S

You don't need a separate swap partition as swapfiles serve that purpose, so you just need /home & /(root) as most distro installers have options for mounting pre existing partitions you can mount your home partition as it is and just format the root partition. Even if you forget mounting the home partition during initial install you can do so later by editing '/etc/fstab'
