Passport Issue | Catch 22 situation !

@honest1 my last passport renewal verification happened after 2 months 15 days in Mumbai. I visited my nearest police station once to try to understand the matter. It seems big cities like Mumbai, they are really chock a block with passport verification. An officer does only a few a day when they are not busy with actual police work. Some police stations take a very long time. Next time, I will do tatkal also.

  1. Should I wait for the current police verification to complete? - Yes.
  2. Should I apply for my child’s passport with the old address? - Wait till your passport is verified. After that apply for your kid
  3. Should I inform the passport authorities about the upcoming address change, or will that cause further delays? - No. 1st get your passport and then you are sorted for 10 years.

Thank you so much guys!
Have considered all your suggestions and went yesterday to the police station again telling that its been already 2 + months now. He gave me number of the constable who is probably going to visit and asked me to call him. So calling him today/tomorrow for the visit.
I am sure, have to give some money but lets see !
Will keep you posted.

Also, holding up my kids passport application till my passports are clear.

Glad that we never paid a penny to cops or any agents to get the job done!
Hopefully he should be noble enough to do his job and FO without chai pani bribe as its their job they are appointed for it and govt. already pays them.

Even I have not paid till now but since this situation is a bit tricky, hence have to do it!
In fact, when I got my first passport, I went through lot of struggle due to name change, address change and other issues, but I did it myself only.

300 should be sufficient but 500 and above is what they are generally looking for .
When State Police came for verification for my wife's job in 2013 for DAE he plainly asked for Rs.500 & drank tea and left. This guy did not even asked for any identification at all.
While IB from Central Police came for verification he did not even sit but asked for all identification papers & did not even drink tea when we offered and finally when we were hesitatingly mumbled whether he needs any rishwat he became very angry and said that govt pays him salary and if we say anything more he will report it back to the headquarters.
Then only we noticed the clear cut difference state & central depts.

Thats what I pointed out they aren't doing any favors to anyone, govt. has appointed them and its their duty to do their jobs and they are paid for it.
This bribery thing came in due to certain people who want to get off their dirty messy businesses. Not all of them are like that but majority. And also the typical Indian mentality that one who holds a passport is a rich person going abroad which makes them ask for even more.

they just want "khane ka Kharcha", go ask around your circle and you'll find some passport dalals who can make this process a lot easier, otherwise if you can, just simply go to the police station and ask the SP/constable something like, "Sir, khana peena hum kara denge (we can take care of the meals) but please do hurry".
I coughed up around 15k for my passport process, I had some very irritiating document mismatches, and the passport dalal took care of everything, from bribing higher ups in passport office to bribing police officials for it, the constable didnt even bother visiting my home lol, they just verified it on phone
I have my father's last name mismatch on my inter/highschool certificate (correct on aadhar/pan) because the school teacher just assumed, a month difference on aadhar - birth certificate (correct in inter/high school certificate, aadhar and pan)
Now i also want to apply for Passport asap travel but how should I go about this?

Ask around your family and friends circle for a passport dalal, that's your best bet, and if you can't find anyone, go to your passport office and go to the nearby xerox/photo copy shop that's definitely gonna be there at a Stone's throw distance away from the office, show him your documents, do what he instructs you to, you'll need to pay him some 7-8k so that he can call ahead in the passport office and talk to the officers there, that's your passport office done.

For police address verification, check which chauki is assigned to you, go there and ask around which constable usually deals with it, talk to him, he'll want some 500-1000Rs and you'll be fine.

Don't by any means go without bribing anyone, I tried it at first, had all my documents ready for the mismatch, even went to the head guy in the passport office, motherfucker straight up denied me with some bullshit reason, second time around, hired a dalal for I think it was 18k? same asshole just said, it doesn't matter, don't worry, we'll take care of it.

I would recommend the dalal way for you, it's the most hassle free way and safe way for you to get your passport made even if expensive

otherwise you can do it on your own too, but you'll need to find out where you can find the guy which can talk for you in the passport office, Xerox shops near passport office which have a lot people crowding there or xerox shops just beside the office are a safe bet generally, those peeps have deals with passport officers, and will smoothen the process for you

@tr27 just apply for passport in normal way if you are not in hurry as you have pan and aadhar names correct. Right?

You don't need to pay 15k-18k unless you in hurry.

As for schools document ..see if you can rectify it from your school or get duplicate done for 1000 something . And that is it.

Otherwise follow @altair21
Steps. He is right about xerox shops near passport office doing the job for you .

You don't have much issue other than just one school certificate mismatchedm

My passport expired in 2020. So can I apply now for renewal? There is no expiry for renewal right? Just asking.
You cannot apply for a renewal AFAIK. The cut-off is 3 years post expiry. You'll have to apply for a brand-new one, but then again, it's so random, who knows?

I got my passport renewed (Kolkata PSK) last November after it had expired a year prior. My experience (the non-Dalal way, not a dime extra spent - zero bribes). It will be different across cities, areas, and urgency, of course:

  1. Applied on the website under Tatkal renewal, and booked a slot. Paid half the amount online, the rest was to be paid at the Kendra (for tatkal only)
  2. Reached, documents were checked. Zero hassle
  3. Finished the rest of the process, accordingly
  4. A day later, got an SMS that I would need to go to the assigned police station for verification of documents after two days (was a 5 min walk from my residence)
  5. Went, police officer checked my documents, and signed off on an iPad(!)
  6. Got my passport within a week

Total spent - 3k

thats because you experienced the happy path, the one you experience in your dreams, where you are the ruler of the world or whatever, or the one you experience high on coke/meth.

1. Pre-existing passport? pass
2. Passport expired within 3 years? pass
3. no Document issue? pass

What me and @tr27 experienced is the unhappy path, his being school bullshit and mine being Parents document mismatch, now try rectifying this and see how these motherfuckers deny your application even if you have got all the documents. Shit aint easy then, when I will be going for passport renewal, I will be following your way to get it renewed, since once passport is made and its within the 3 year period, getting another is infinitely easier

aint that easy lol, CBSE is a b**ch when you need to get your documents corrected even if the school was the issue, I have first hand experience on that

Yeah first you have to deal with your school and dig up your registration records then go to CBSE.. multiple people have suggested me to actually change the Last name on PAN/Aadhar rather than trying to change on school documents since the former would be easier and faster (to which I haven't agreed).
I guess i will have to pay up pockets and still struggle.. i can just feel it

And they are right lol, I wont recommend getting CBSE to update their records, it took us months of back and forth before we managed to obtain the corrected mark sheet from CBSE, and in the end, while those school mfs kept dragging their feet, we just paid a school dalal (a govt school) who went to Allahabad and got it corrected for us

Well, not to worry.
I had a longer name attached to my primary name and the same was for my father till my schooling.
Come in college and I took matters in my hands and I shortened both my dads and my name. That time aadhar was not invented!
Thereafter, I went ahead with the new name and I was never questioned by the college while issuing me certificates or during admissions right from11th till my graduation and then my pg etc.
My pan then was on my shortened name by my father refused to shorten his name stating that on all his govt. ids like pan/voter/ration/other in-office govt. ids were on his original name. I was like ok!
The I started working and everything was on my new identity/name while I only kept putting my fathers first alphabet and thats it, no confusion no jhanjhat!
Then came aadhar era in yr 2008 but even that got passed easily as it was the initial stage and everyone was given a choice in names/initials etc.
My passport also went through without issues but then on my passport name of father was full-fledged while on my pan and aadhar was shortened one.
I didn't bothered as I got the passport smoothly!

Now, in the yr 2021 when I went to get/apply for marriage certificate, I was questioned as a marriage cert. gets issued based on school leaving cert. name and on that both me and fathers name was imprinted the old long name style The officers got confused as my pan had father first alphabet while aadhar had a shortened name and on cert. it was rtotally different.
I convinced them somehow..took 5-8 mins and my marriage cert. came on my current name just the way I wanted it to!

In 2022 when I wanted to renew my passport, first my wife faced a lot of issues with her fathers name due to "I" used instead of "EE" and vice-versa on both pan/aadhar. So, first via affidavit she had to get her aadhar/pan changed and only then she applied for passport and everything came clean aka records should be identical on both pan/aadhar on her and her fathers ids.

And here my dad refused to make the changes or entertain any such affidavit so I had to reapply for a fresh pan doing some jugaad/tukka and got the name changed properly on my pan and aadhar and both fingers-crossed came neat/clean and thus I was able to secured my passport!

And in all this I didn't had to deal with any agent but all by myself using the usual govt. online process!
Followed the usual online application/correction and that worked!

Update 2:
The constable finally visited today, though I had already moved my belongings over the weekend. However, I still have access to the old flat.
He checked the rent agreement (which is valid) and spoke to a neighbor, who confirmed that we are staying here.
Now, I need to visit the police station tomorrow with the necessary documents. Will share an update soon.
