Hi

Plz suggest a PC config solely for sound/video editing purpose.
Its to be used commercially. Needless to say it has to be fast enuf.
It has to be within a reasonable budget or say in the VFM segment.

Kindly post the approx prices for each component suggested as well.
It will help us immensely in decision making. Thanx in advance. :hap2:
 
Intel Core 2 duo E4300: 5.5k

Monitor as per need, see other threads

IMO this config should be good enough for most of the video n sound editing work that to at a good price
 
I have no idea of prices, but about the above config I'd say you need a faster CPU. There is also no interface in the config, you'll need a way to grab video and audio, and those things don't come cheap.

If you want to skimp on the CPU you need a hardware encoder card.

For commercial use I recommend against OC-friendly mobos and would instead go for the fastest stock performance, and proven stability. That would make me lean towards the 975 chipset instead of 965, so a P5W-DH or XBX2 would be my choice. You have to think of this as a workstation, not a desktop.

Also, what is the application? Offline? Online? What software? A lot of times software will dictate config, and maybe 4GB is the way to go.

For professional use the best thing to do is talk to the software vendor (Avid, Adobe or SGI) and they will talk you through a system setup that will run fine.

Top of my hat, the changes I would make are more diskspace, faster disks, preferably SCSI, as well as more memory. 4Gb is good, specially if you're planning on online editing 2 Gb is not going to cut it.
 
Good. I am a film editor is Prasad Studio. If you can tell, which software you are going to run in the PC, I can help a little.

If you planned to run AVID, you need a Quadro Fx. For premiere, It's enough to have a GeForce 256 MB card. (But DX10 is future proof, You can also buy a Matrox card for realtime preview)

Regarding Monitors, I don't recommend you to buy 2 monitors. Buy a Prof. widescreen Monitor (24 bit RGB, Ex: Buy DELL, but not Samsung/Viewsonic) and you can buy a Television for full screen playback. (Note: You must need a YUY/HD Out Graphics card for this). And remember no Graphics card support 3 displays at the same time. But if you have money, buy 2 monitors and a TV with Canopus AVDC 110.

If you planned to mix sound also in the same system, you need a prof. sound card. I recommend a EMU(Good for Cubase/Nuendo) or M-Audio/M-Box (Good for Pro Tools) card. Don't buy X-FI.
