PC Peripherals PC Configuration for CAD/CAE & moderate gaming

^^ good point.. But can you tell me a great VFM rig..

I'd like to save money if possible..

But I might not upgrade it for next 2-3 years..

I've just purchased an HP workstation costing around 75K optimized for CAD/CAE use. A similar configuration for a desktop PC will cost around 25K less. Basically my system has quad core processor with 4 gb of ECC RAM. In my view the quadro fx cards are better optimized for CAD/CAE applications whereas other cards do better for games. You can find configuration around 60K on DELL'S website.

All suggestion in different directions.. Lot of confusion..

I need a list of peripherals along with the price so that I can go and buy it from SP Road..

actually want to buy it today itself if get the suggestion (list) quickly..

also the shop address for buying the same, atleast the Dell SP2208WFP..

reply quickly guys..

As per my previous post i would recommend :

Vx450
Lite-on 20x Sata
APC 650VA
KB+Mouse
CM690
Seagate 500GB
2GB Ram
Abit iP35
SP2208WFP
Radeon 3650 /Quadro FX 560

Proc - Q6600/E8400
Total - approx 57600

Speakers + Soundcard can cost anything from 250 to 25000 as per your wish, but IMO forget the soundcard for now, get a basic set of speakers/ good HP's and splurge when you are flush again
Potential Compromises

Get generic KB+Mouse for 250 each - save 1000
Get Zebronics Bijli instead of CM690 - save around 1500
Get E228WFP instead of the SP - save 1500
Get a APC 500VA UPS - save 1500
Get a E7200(2.5Ghz) proccy, save 3000-4000

So depending on the compromises you can save up to 10000 adn use that for speakers/soundcard/more ram

A year down you can add a TRUE heatsink and OC the processor to 3-3.5 Ghz
Well, thats about all that i can contribute, so i'll sign off by saying good luck with your purchase - whatever it may turn out to be

^^ thanks a lot 'soggy'.. That's like a true suggestion..

BTW I'd still like others to come up with their suggestions..

Don't want to make an insane buy, instead something which fulfil my needs for next two years or so..

so TE Guru's help me with your valuable suggestion..

well mine i have already mentioned....mean abt proccy RAM and GPU....

as soggy suggested mobo Abit Ip35E is good enuf....go for E8400 and later on you can add a decent heatsink and overclock

Ram - G-Skill DDR 2 2-6400CL5D-2GBPQ 2GB (1GB x 2) 800Mhz < 2.5k IMO

you dont have to choose CM690 for the case.....its too much (its worth it thtz different story).....go for Zebronics Bijli or if u want transparent side panel go for a Zebronics Antibiotic...

GPU u can choose HD 4850 IMO its selling for 190 USD....u wont regret the purchase

^^ thanks a lot ..

I actually wants few senior members to come up with their suggestions..

It'll be very helpful for me to make a buy..

Also shop address to buy a Dell 22"....

you wont get a Dell 22" off the shelf [atleast not in Bangalore that I know of], you might have to order directly from dell and wait for the delivery, which normally takes 10-15 'working days' [around 3 human weeks].

A better choice will be to get a LG 226WTQ. If you are lucky you may find it at Reliance Digital, else maybe you can look for it at SP Road. The price should be around ~ 12900 range.

^^ In some of the posts I've seen somebody talking about Dell 22" availability in Bangalore.. So it available for sure..

also TE members recommends Dell over LG....

@zhopudey = thanks for recommendation,

but still... Which CPU to buy?
And GPU..?
Case..?

and what are your comment on the compromises he mentioned..?

As vij suggested that CAE needs raw cpu speed, an e8400 or an overclocked e7200 would be better than a lower clocked quad. For the gpu, a 3850 modded to a firestream would be best.

As for the cabby, a zebby bijli works - so why spend more? :D

the lg22"wtq something is supposed to be a real good monitor. i think vnerd here got it from croma or reliance digital somewhere in banglore... 13k odd.

@zhopudey = so its E8400..

what is the difference between E8400 and E7200..?

And I think a mid end GPU is sufficient for me.. So suggest me a mid end one..
What's the price of 3850..?

@stalker = if we don't consider the price, which is better among Dell and LG..?
or the LG is just good for the price?

I'd recommend you to go through the various display buy threads on TE. SP2208WFP and L226WTQ both have received a very positive response from the TE crowd.
Here I've listed the pros and cons:
SP2208WFP:
Pro:
1. HDMI input
2. Webcam and stereo Mic
3. 4 port USB hub

Cons:
1. Glossy screen [if your room is lighted up you might have some problems]
2. More expensive
3. I *really* doubt if the Dell 22" are being retailed in B'lore. You may find the 17" and 19" at places like Computer Warehouse, still sceptical about it. Nevertheless, if you manage to find it, please let us know as well :D

L226WTQ:
Pro:
1. Cheaper

Cons:
1. No bling bling
2. may or may not be available in the market :ashamed:
Either way I believe it may be a personal choice for you, either of them will be a good buy IMHO.

LG is better as compared to other 22" monitors but not sp2208wfp. i was also thinking of buying this LG before but then i changed my mind and the price difference is not drastic and u will get a lot more in sp2208wfp namely 4 usb ports, audio port, 2mp webcam with integrated mic and most importantly HDMI. LG was retailing @ 13500 and dell was @ 16500 so i chose dell :D oh yes...dell comes with 5yr warranty:D

The things finalised are:

CPU : Q6600/E8400/E7200
M/B : P35, Abit/Biostar
RAM : G. Skill 2GB @800 GHz, any other?
HDD : Seagate 500GB/WD 640GB
DVD-RW : ....?
PSU : VX450/CM600
Cabinet : Zebby Bijli/CM Elite334
GPU : 8600GT or 9600GSO
Monitor : Dell SP2208WFP/E198WFP/SE198WFP
Speakers : AL MX5021
Soundcard : onboard for now or something better to support AL MX
UPS : APC 650VA
Cooling : .....?

Now PLEASE help in finalise the components among these (list the prices)..
