Hi all,

Two of my friends are planning to buy a pc (total 2)

configuration is like this:

CPU: E4400 - 5k or E6750 - 8.7k
MB: XFX 650i Ultra - 5.4k or any other good option?
RAM: 1GB Transcend/Kingston 800 - 2.4k
HDD: Seagate 320 GB - 3.7k
DVD-RW: LH-20A1P - 1.6k
PSU: XTREME power 600W - 3.5k
Cabinet: Elite330 - 2.8k
Graphics: 8600 GT Brand XFX/BIG?
Monitor: 1930WM - 10.5k
UPS: APC 650W - 3k
KB/Mouse: Logitech G1 combo

Is this a good configuration or suggest a better one?

Budget around 50k

Try going in for dual sticks of 1 GB RAM for a total of 2 GBs. :)

XFX 650i Ultra is a great board, so go through with it.

As for the proccy, give preference to the E6750 over the E4400, because if you're going to be gaming, then the E6750 would be a better choice. As for the GPU, go for XFX.

Other components look about right. I think the Viewsonic VX1932WM is a good alternative if you want 19" WS. :D

Thanks Techdevil,

What is the difference between 1930 and 1932?

little update on needs of the guys,

They are looking it for applications like 3D modelling (UniGraphics, CATIA) and analysis (ANSYS, Hypermesh)

I am not very sure if GPU is needed for this kind of requirements, if someone can put some light on this.

They will be very happy if they can save some cash and buy something which is pretty good for their need.

but one of them is pretty much into gaming also.

so now I think configuration might be different for each of them.

Viewsonic VX1932WM

  • 1440 x 900
  • 2 MS Response Time
  • 2000 : 1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio

Viewsonic VG1930WM
  • 1440 x 900
  • 5 MS Response Time
  • 700 : 1 Contrast Ratio

If I were choosing, I'd go with the VX1932WM.

Hmm, as for the GPU, I have no clue what's the requirement for such softwares, sorry. If you want to play games though, get a minimum 8600GT or better yet, the 8800GTS 320 Megger. Gives decent performance, and it's not as expensive as the GTX. :hap2:

I apologize for not being informed on the cards requirements for such softwares. :S

And also do make sure that you get 2 GB RAM. It's worth it. :)

^^ Thanks again and plz no apolpgize for anything at all, after all we are here to help each other.

ok so 1932 is done.

Should I (they) get E6750 or E4400 will be fine enough?

Also any better option for KB/Mouse and cabinet?

as im building a PC too, got some price quotes frm a shop in Chennai ::

Viewsonic VG921M (19 Inch) ~ 11000

Viewsonic VG1912W (19 Inch Widescreen) ~ 9250

LG Electronics L194WT 19" Widescreen LCD ~ 10250

Samsung SyncMaster 940NW 19" Widescreen LCD ~ 10500

called him bout VX1932w, he said it was ~11.5K

i would suggest E6750 ~8.5K best bang for buck..:D

E4400 is fine, it's a pretty good CPU but the E6750 has 4 MB Cache over the E4400's 2 MB cache. And the price difference is not huge either, but the extra performance is well worth the money. :hap2: I'd give first preference to E6750, but if budget is tight, go for E4400

Get a Samsung Pleomax Keyboard and maybe Microsoft wheel mouse optical. As for cabinet, CM Elite is good enough. You can also check out Zebronics cabinets which would do fine and are cheaper in price than the CMs.

Heres what I'd suggest for 50k budget.

  • IC2D E4400 + XFX 650i = Approx 10k
  • 2 GB DDR2-667 Kingston + WD 250 GB = Approx 6.8k
  • Leadtek 8800 GTS 320 MB + Viewsonic VX1932WM = Approx 28k, I think the GPU cost 16.5k.
  • Creative 2.1 Inspire Speakers. Don't go for SBS. = Approx 1.7k.
  • Zebronics Cabby + CM Extreme Power 600w = Approx 5k I guess.

Total ~ 51.5K + Keyboard, Mouse etc. 52.5k MAX.

That should perform well for quite some time. If you can increase your budget by a little more, I'd sincerely suggest going with the E6750. But it's not like E4400 is weak either, just implying that the extra performance is worth the money ;)

Also check out 200mph's PC buying thread, he has put together appropriate configs for differing purposes on there. That's a pretty helpful thread, so I suggest you check it out. ;)

PS

Suggested prices have been taken from that thread I was talking about. Do check it out. :)

nice Rig..but no Graphics card ?? :O

^^^^ First we'll try to use it w/o Graphics card for CAD/CAE work. If it doesn't work then XFX 8600GT for 7k will be bought.
