I have been doing my research(reading forums, mags, hardware comparisons) for couple of months and finally I'll ask the pros what to do.

I'll use this PC for all-round purpose. By all round I mean, I'll use it for the following:

  1. Casual Gaming: I'm not running for high fundoo frame rates or chase benchmarks. Recent games in decent settings is good enough for me.
  2. Watch HD contents: Will be watching HD movies/documentries in my 32" Bravia. So I need a card with HDMI support (HDMI slot/DVI-HDMI dongle with audio support)
  3. Downloading

Now, I'm confused between 2 components - the proccy and the graphics card.

For graphics card I am thinking in between hd 4770 card (which has HDMI support via DVI dongle), and the other is sapphire hd 4850 dual slot cooler with HDMI. But of this particular sapphire card I'm not getting the exact price. Also the card must have enough power to support dual monitor (32" bravia and 19"dell). I may occasionally also do gaming in the 32" using wireless xbox controller.

Next is proccessor. AMD or Intel. Intel is cooler and energy efficient. So since I'll be downloading a lot, that really matters. On the other hand AMD proccy are value for money and has the best juice. But with a very bad driver support.

The other hardwares that I need is 4gb ram, 1tb HDD (7200.11), Dell s1909, DVD writer, PSU/cabinet VFM with minimum power consumption. I have absolutely no wish to OC. Finally my budget should not exceed 40k. As my original budget was 35k. So junta please suggest.

:thanx: all in advance

Just checked the May PC buying Guide:

Low End Gaming Rig (Budget 41k)

Cooling: SCCF 92MM - 1.9k

RAM: Transcend 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz - 2.2k

GPU: Palit GTS 250 512MB DDR3 - 7.5k -->A slightly better card here

HDD: Seagate 7200.12 500GB SATAII - 3k -->1 TB here

Cabinet: Cooler Master Elite 334 ATX - 2k

SMPS: Cooler Master Extreme 460W - 2.5k

I will recommend the following-

Intel Q8200 ~ Rs 8500 + A Gigabyte motherboard will cost you like 6.5k

Palit GTX260 Core 216 ~ Check Dealer's section

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB ~ Rs 6100

NZXT Alpha ~ Rs 2700

Samsung Octoedge ~ Rs 1050

GSkill PiBlack 4GB DDR2 800Mhz ~ Check Dealer's section

Corsair 450W ~ Check Dealer's section

Dell 19" ~ Rs 7000

I feel gtx 260 will overshoot my budget. I was looking for a good hd 4770/ hd 4850 card with hdmi support and good cooling. Also reviews for Palit cards is really bad. So I was thinking on the lines of Sapphire.
Also Quadcore will be a overkill for me. Also since I'll be using the PC for download purposes, I'm a bit apprehensive about it .

@sickizblank: Thanx a lot for ur time....

^If that's the case, why spend 40k?
The display is not included in the budget right? What display/res will you be gaming on?(don't tell me it's going to be on the 32'' bravia?)
Secondly, there's absolutely no problem in going with Palit GPU's.

I wont be gaming in the 32" all the time. I really suck in games other than racing stuff using a controller. So I may game in the 32" rarely with the controller. Gaming will be on 19" Dell.

Sadly, display is included in my budget :( . Am I going wrong somehwere:huh:

Since you are saving money, get better rams. G skills 4GB pi black 1066mhz cl5 or 4GBPK 1066mhz. They both cost 4.4k but last time when I checked with prime 4GBPK costs 5.4k and 4 sets of 4GB pi black got sold off pretty fast. Grab vx450 IMHO. Get a good mousepad or else those mouse feets will get spoilt realy fast. Rest of the money- save it. You can go for samsung 2033sw if you really want it. It costs around 7.5k. Oh yeah, buy a 120mm fan cm fan since the case comes with only fan on the front.

Get the Gigabyte G31M ES2L instead of that P31 motherboard.
That aside, following are the ways in which you can allocate the surplus budget:-
*Buy a better PSU, CM RP 460 or Corsair VX450 should be fine.
*Invest more cash into the GPU, go for a GTX260/275
*Get high quality low latency RAM, eg. Gskill Pi Black CL4 800Mhz 2x2GB/4GBPK CL5 1066mhz
*CPU cooler= OCZ Vendetta 2 @ 2.5k

BTW, with a good OC and a GTX260 or more, you can even consider playing games on the bravia.

@Amien, Socerer: Point noted about RAM, will look for better RAM, provided I get it here in SP Road Blore.

Also, people keep suggesting me gtx 260....but isnt ati cards support dx 10.1 with comparison to dx10 support of nvidia cards...or is it all cr@p ??

Plus, cant a hd 4850/4770 card play games + HDMI content in my 32"

Go for decent 21 monitor @1680x1050 to enjoy HD movies and games. That Dell monitor only has resolution of 1366x768.Then get GTX260.Also as other people suggested get atleast Corsair VX450 PSU.As for the processor E7400 is good enough.Alternatively you can go for AMD configuration.Get Phenom 2 720B.E processor in that case.

Finally after all discussion here and also in the "Graphics Card" section, i cam up with this rig..what say junta?

GIGABYTE GA-P31-ES3G0 -Rs. 2900
Intel Core 2 duo E7400 -Rs. 5700
Trancend 2x2gb -Rs. 2200
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS -Rs. 6100
Cabby - Cooler Master Elite 330/331/332/333/334/335 -Rs. 2000
Corsair VX 450W -Rs. 3800
MSI Gtx 260 OC -Rs. 12500
Dell 1909W -Rs. 7400
LG DVD drive -Rs. 1100

Total cost 43,700

It has overshot my budget, but what the hell :hap2:

One last question, is the above config fine, or do I have to do some more adjustments.

Yes a major change.:P Get Phenom II X2 550 and Biostar 790GX Chipset. This combination will perform way better than your current one and will also increase total amount slightly.

Biostar 790gx is abt 1.5k costlier than my above mentioned MB. But is the porccy 1.5k cheaper than the E7400?? Can you confirm the rough prices please?

Amarbir is selling the processor for about 5.5k.This processor is great value for money and a good overclocker. If you are tight on budget get GTS 250.In this case your rig will be nicely balanced and you will be able to max-out all games at 1440x900.

Approved! :hap2:

Its not an all rounder though.. Where are the speakers and the sound card or the Gaming mouse?

EDIT: Stick to Intel IMO.. OC the 7400 to 3.6Ghz at stock cooling and u will have whipped the AMD's sad aaas.

Yes, I'll stick to Intel as of now...OC, ummm maybe not, but who knows what holds in the future ;)

As of now no speakers, as I'll use my old logitech 2.1 750w. I got MS wireless mouse + KB 1 month back, so no plans as of now. But i'll get a XBOX 360 w/l gampad for FIFA and NFS/Grid :jumpy:

Avoid the P31 ES3G, it has some issues with using RAM in pairs, check the board's page on the gigabyte website
Get the G31M ES2L instead IF you still want to go intel.

I believe the Phenom II X2 550 will be a better choice over the E7400 so definately consider the AMD platform as well.
